WHY BUY A BIG DISH WHEN I HAVE THE SPACE AND THE CASH?
There is nothing like big for nothing when you are talking about dish. What we have is big and mighty. like i said earlier, the only thing that is stopping you from installing one is simply the space. For example if you staying in a one room apartment, it maybe difficult for you to install a big dish even if you can afford it because of your landlord. For thos ewho have conveint space to install big dish, Let us now start discussing what you tend to gain if you have one depending on how big your dish is.
Note: In this context, the big dish starts from 1 meter(100 cm e.g startimes or consat default dish) to 4.6meter (460cm). we are not talking about 90cm(dstv default dish) or 60cm here
REASON 1. If you have a dish that is 1 meter or larger, you can enjoy some very good free to air channels. We all know that fta mean totally free channels without the $ encryption signs. This is dependent on the size of dish you have and how hard you search for fta positions. Read this to have an insight about fta channels. The major two disadvantages of watching only fta channels is that it can be highly inconvenient. For instance, the channels that is free today, can be encrypted tomorrow and nothing you can do about it. secondly, to watch sports events like epl, laliga, ucl consistently is either very difficult or unsustainable using fta
REASON 2. The bigger your dish, the more the number of channels you are bound to receive all other things being equal. Let me break this down, for example if you have a 1.8meter dish which is a minimum requirement for a particular sat package, with your best effort, you may hit green only on 56% maximum. if someone with a 2.4 meter or 2.6meter dish track the same position with you, he can hit 80% and also receive more channels that you cannot receive on your own dish. Another pointer is that, we have some specific dish size for some specific satellite. Let me go deeper to make it clearer; while 1.8meter can track mtn worldwide powervu package on 24.5e cband, the same dish will not be big enough or cannot track any meaningful channels on hotbird 13e ku. For hotbird, you may need between 2.6meter dish to like 3.6meter. The most weird aspect of it is that, the size of this may even vary within a particular country. For example what you will receive on a 2.6meter dish in northern Nigeria maybe equal to what you receive with 3meter dish in south west Nigeria. This is the very reason why you need to get close to your local satellite installer before buying a big dish. Your installer will tell you the minimum size you need for you to get what channels you want.
REASON 3. You wouldn’t want to be relegated to the back seat. You will want to follow the trend. The trend as of today is an average of 1 meter dish as against average of 60cm dish about four years ago. Besides, the tighter security of satellite installers endear us towards a bigger dish if we must continue enjoying cheaper satellite viewing. Before, nobody wants to hear about any big dish because many devices like qsat, azsky, A+ were opening premium channels like dst* , mytv, canaplus… using a dish as small as 60cm. Nowadays, we know its almost impossible to enjoy dst* channels if you are not subscribed to dst* official decoder. The respite now is in 1 meter dish or bigger where you have channels that are even better than dst* channels like those on hotbird, powrvu channels and so on.
REASON 3. When you have a big motorized dish, you are welcomed into a world of convenience because you may not need the service of your local satellite installer for a very long time to come after the initial installation. A jack / motor, will enable you to be able to rotate your dish from the comfort of your living room without going outside to manually do so. Recommendation: buy jack for a 2.4 meter dish or larger.
CONCLUSION
Buying a big dish is not something one would just wake up and get. you must be prepared for it. for example, if you have no enough space to install a big dish, and you buy it, it means you may end up buying what you do not need. Also there are some places in Africa that may not be able to receive a particular package no matter how big the dish is. For example, You cannot receive hotbird 13e in Uganda no matter how big the dish because the footprint does not extend to tat part of Africa at all. do not forget to re-share this post for more coverage.
