Mikel Arteta has already hinted at Kieran Tierney's Arsenal future with Tactical Masterclass.



Kieran Tierney's situation at Arsenal could be about to completely change following Jurrien Timber's £34.3million move from Ajax.


Mikel Arteta highlighted his defence as an area desperate for improvement after seeing his side fall short in the Premier League title race last season on the back of William Saliba's injury. Timber's arrival, in a way, fills two spots in the Gunner squad, with the Netherlands international capable of playing at centre-back and right-back.



In Timber's first game in his new colours, Arteta's ideology was evident from the off. Taking up a position at right-back, Timber took up an inverted role, similar to what we saw from Man-City and John Stones Last Season. The Gunners have already utilised the versatility of their squad with Oleksandr Zinchenko. The Ukraine international was used more as a central midfielder last term, drifting infield when in possession to allow Granit Xhaka more license to roam in more advanced areas.


However, Zinchenko was the victim of heavy criticism at the back end of the season for his defensive capabilities and Arteta may have the ultimate answer. Timber's ability to play the inverted role on the right means a more orthodox full-back on the left will be required. That's where Tierney will be needed. The 25-year-old has proved in the past of his ability to play at centre-back, meaning he would be able to form a back three with the two centre-backs when Timber moves into midfield.

Huyu mwamba alishatoka huko kwenye kijiwe cha false hope, sasa hivi kazi yake ni kuipiga spana za macho tu Kima yoyote anaetaka kuuhadaa ulimwengu.

How’s Trossard’s Injury?

Yeah he’s fine. He trained this morning and he’ll be available tomorrow.

How pleased were you with the performance on Weds and how do you feel playing a direct rival on Saturday? Is it a test?

Every game is a test. Even though we got a good result the other day there are things we must do better than we did in the game. We took a lot of positives from. We got fitness-wise the outcome that we wanted and we shared the minutes with a lot of players which was really good. Tomorrow will be different. We’re against a team who are very used to playing together and they are big rivals for us in the Premier League. It will be amazing to play in this stadium. Full house, incredible atmosphere and a really good test to see where we are.

At what point did you know you the Premier League was gone last season?

When mathematically it was impossible. Till that point we always believed. There were moments where it was in our hands and we lost it. Until it’s over mathematically you should never give up because it’s football.

Is Partey in your plans for next season?

Without a question of a doubt. Thomas is a super important player for us and for me. I want him to be part of the team. That’s for sure.

What’s the future for Nicolas Pepe?

At the moment he’s recovering from an injury. That’s why he’s not here. He had a spell on loan and we wanted to get more from that loan spell. We’ll have to see when he comes back. Have a chat with him. Understand what he plans are and make a decision.

Can we expect any more signings or are you happy with what you’ve got this season?

I don’t know. There will be movement still. There will be a lot of ins and outs. It’s still very early. Obviously the last week has been a bit quiet. If we can try and improve the team we’ll do so. But we don’t want to get any weaker so we have to be sure of that as well.

Could Arsenal go for Mbappe?

You know I never talk about players that are not part of our team.

How happy are you with William Saliba’s return and how is he fitness-wise?

He’s doing really good. He’s a huge player for us. He looks good fitness-wise. He’s in a really good moment. He’s signed his contract, he’s really happy and I think he’s OK.

Can Partey and Rice play together?

Yeah. They can play together. That was in my plans. If you want to improve the squad and have more quality you need players that can improve the squad and players in the same position that can fight for the same places. It’s something that we haven’t had in the last few years. We wanted to improve that. That’s why we bought Declan as well.

Do you feel you’ve got versatility to have a plan A, B and C now?

Well it’s not A,B,C it’s A1, A2, A3 - depending on how you want to look at it. We are looking at options, we are training different options, but also sometimes you have to leave players on the training ground to see because sometimes when they train with each other they give you a lot of information. It doesn’t always have to be you provoking information. They give you information as well and you have to be ready to take that.

Do you expect Partey to stay?

Yes.

Have you had any conversations with him about his priority?

No. Every time I spoke to him and had a conversation with him he’s ready to stay with us. For me, there’s nothing there at all.

Will it be harder this season or easier?

Harder, for sure because the level is going to go up and the teams are getting better and the league is getting stronger so it’s only going to get harder. We have to be better and play better and do things better than we did last year and that’s what we’re working on at the moment.

Could there be a hangover from last year going into the season?

I think what happened last season was probably necessary to learn the lessons that you have to learn to get better and be successful and achieve what we want
