Law 13 - Free Kicks

As soon as a free kick is given against his team a player shall run immediately to stand in front of the ball. A player shall be allowed to kick, throw or carry the ball away if he feels that his defence is not ready for the attacker's free kick. If a team take the option of a quick free kick and it goes wrong, or they lose possession to an opponent who was within 10 yards, then play shall be stopped and the kick is retaken. The referee will raise his arm above his head at free kicks as a signal to stop the kick being taken.

• an indirect free kick awarded inside the goal area must be taken on the

It's not uncommon play, even Fabregas angeweza kufanya hivyo:

Free kick rule

There is no need for the referee to blow his whistle for a free kick to be taken; a player must simply get the approval of the match official to restart play.

Whether the attacking team has been too quick is purely for the discretion of the referee. Arsenal themselves have previously benefited from quickly taken free-kicks, most notably when Thierry Henry scored against Chelsea in 2004.

When can a free-kick be taken quickly?




Thierry Henry scored from a quickly taken free-kick for Arsenal against Chelsea on Sunday.

As Chelsea 'keeper Petr Cech lined up his wall, Henry took the free-kick and scored.

And in theory every free-kick can be taken quickly and it's not the first time that Henry has taken advantage.

The Academy spoke to Premiership referee Graham Poll last season after a similar Henry strike against Aston Villa and he explained the ruling.

First you have to deal with the principle of a free-kick.

If the attacking team are fouled then it is they who hold the advantage.

With a free-kick around the penalty area, we always ask the players whether they want it quick or slow.

This is their window of opportunity to surprise the defence.

If they want it quick, then they have given up the right to re-take it, no matter if it hits a defender who's three yards away.

The same goes if they kick it over the bar. They only get one chance.

The flip side is if they want it slow, they can't then take it while I count out the ten yards for the wall.

They must wait for my whistle.

There is nothing in the laws of the game that say we have to indicate for the free-kick to be taken.

It's just like when someone wants to take a free-kick anywhere else on the field.

As long as the ball is stationary and in the right place then the attacking team can take it as quickly as they like.

Ni hivi.. free kick inapigwa kulingana na kosa, hilo lipo wazi. Faulo ya kipa kudaka mpira wa kurudishiwa adhabu yake ni indirect free-kick ambayo timu pinzani hujipanga kuweka ukuta...na adhabu yake sio penati. Kwa kitendo alichokifanya mwamuzi cha kuwahisha freekick kupigwa kabla ya ukuta ni udhaifu, na hivyo kuizawadia Porto nafasi ambayo ni zaidi ya adhabu ya penati.

Suala la kupiga free kick haraka kwa mpigaji hilo sio kosa kwa upande wake, ndo maana Fab akasema huenda ingekuwa yeye angefanya ivoivo. Mwamuzi ndio mwenye dhamana ya kuruhusu au la na ndiye msimamizi wa haki na sheria. Yeye ndo analaumiwa..
