ARSENE WENGER admits watching Robin van Persie score for Manchester United was torture.
The £22million Dutch striker has already netted more goals this season than ALL his former Arsenal team-mates put together.
And Wenger confessed that Van Persie's stunning strike on his first start for United against Fulham made uncomfortable viewing on Match of the Day last weekend.
He said: "I must say it was a fantastic goal, a typical Van Persie goal. But what was a bit strange to me was that he had the wrong shirt on!
"Why is he jumping around in a shirt like that? I don't know.
"I do know, but I don't like it too much."
Wenger forked out £24million on Olivier Giroud and Lukas Podolski to fill the gap left by Van Persie, who scored 30 Premier League goals for the North Londoners last season.
But the French boss has seen his side open the season with back-to-back goalless draws against Sunderland and Stoke.
And if the Gunners still fail to find the net in the first half at Liverpool today, it will set an unwanted Premier League record as their longest run without scoring at the start of a campaign.
They are in danger of topping last season's dry run which finally ended with Theo Walcott's goal just before the break in their third game. Mind you, that was in the 8-2 hammering at Manchester United.
Yet Wenger insists he is not losing faith in his new-look strike force.
He said: "We have not scored and we are not completely at our best going forward.
"But I think that will happen very quickly. On the pitch, we look a team who is ready to fight together.
"At the moment I do not want to put too much pressure on them. You have to give players who have come in a bit of time to adapt to the league."
