Hakimu Letwin Rwodzia alimuongezea hukumu kwa kuzingatia maumivu aliyopata mlalamikaji, mahakama ilisisitiza kuwa mashambulizi ya kijinsia yenye ukatili hayakubaliki.

Mugede forced himself upon a fellow 24-year-old inmate at Harare Central Prison on July 23, during bath time. The act was witnessed by another inmate, Tinashe Muyambo, who informed Antony Chambarambanda, and the matter was subsequently reported to prison officer Tafadzwa Nembaware. Mugede was convicted after a full trial by Harare magistrate Letwin Rwodzi. In addition to the 20-year sentence, magistrate Rwodzi added two years that had been set aside by magistrate Loice Mukunyadze when she convicted Mugede of rape in 2021. Those two years were previously suspended on the condition that he did not commit a similar offense within five years.
Magistrate Rwodzi noted that Mugede was not repentant and emphasized that he must be punished for his actions, highlighting that sexual assaults of this nature are unacceptable, even in prison.
