Kama sikosei last year UDSM ilikuwa ranked number 13 katika African Universities, ila mwaka huu hawa jamaa wamei-rank number 18 - meaning imeshuka kwa nafasi 5!

Basi kama ni ya 18, itakuwa imepanda kidogo. Hiyo nafasi ya 13 ni kweli ilishawahi kuishika, lakini mimi nijuavyo mara ya mwisho ilikuja kuwa ya 22, sasa kama imekuwa ya 18 itakuwa imepanda na si kushuka.

Na ni ya 3,496 Duniani. Naona hii ranking ni kama tu vile ya FIFA ambayo siyo necessarily inamaanisha ubora wa kitu kimoja dhidi ya kingine.

The unit for analysis is the institutional domain, so only universities and research centres with an independent web domain are considered. If an institution has more than one main domain, two or more entries are used with the different addresses.

The first Web indicator, Web Impact Factor (WIF), was based on link analysis that combines the number of external inlinks and the number of pages of the website, a ratio of 1:1 between visibility and size. This ratio is used for the ranking, adding two new indicators to the size component: Number of documents, measured from the number of rich files in a web domain, and number of publications being collected by Google Scholar database.

"the quality of a university is judged by the number of students it rejects" based on this quote, utagundua in recent years UDSM imeongeza idadi ya wanafunzi inayochukua. Hivyo ultimately hata ubora wake utakuwa-judged Low. Hivyo zisikuchanganye sana hizo ranking zao. Hata ukiangalia university za Uk bora ( Cambridge na Oxford ) nazo zimeshuka kutokana na ku-admit wanafunzi wengi. actually hizi ranking ni very political and business oriented

Kwa nini Isishuke? Kama bado tuna tamaduni za kuwa kwenda shule ni elite privileged na sio muhimu kwa maendeleo ya Taifa!! Hadi hapo tutakapoamka katika hilo then ndio tunaweza kufikiriwa kupanda....wacha sisi tuuchape usingizi wa pono tu hivi sasa.

Jamaa ni lazima mtofautishe ranking na mashindano ya mbio. Hakuna tofauti kati ya 13, 18 au 22.

Last year UDSM was placed number 13 in world universities' ranking. This year it has droped to 18.

I think it is time now education stakeholders find answer to such situation.It is not a simple matter when a university drops five steps in just a year. What i know is that all universities are put on the same scale and same critera are used i.e academic, research and consultancy excellence.That being the case our question should be, where has UDSM gone wrong?

One area i do not hesitate to pinpoint to have contributed such an abrupt drop is academic.For some years now there have been complaints over graduates from UDSM. I am sure something is wrong somewhere. Maybe among lecturers or students admitted there or within our education system in general.

It is something that has to be discussed at a national level.
