People in here speak as though Zitto had a choice in this. Its clear that he considers himself more brilliant than Freeman who inherited the party from his father-in-law who is brilliant (Mzee Mtei.. yuko kwenye score board harvard pale). This is going to be the hottest Parliament since I dnt know.. EVER! Zitto's ultimate goal is to be President of URT and he was hoping to run in 2015 (as he announced during his campaigns) and SLaa's popularity has not made him happy. His chance to redeem himself from the Dowans thing and get back in the favour of the far and moderate-to-far-left of the public was to be leader of the opposition and be in the limelight thanks to TBC and the rest of the media, grilling the PM etc... That is what all Machiavellian politicians would hope for, and he is one.
On the other hand, he doesnt want to appear as a CCM puppet so it was also in his short-term interest to show unity in his party.. the result of course is the current jubilation of the intellectually mediocre masses which are happy that he is such a 'muungwana' ( this is exemplified by this thread and most of the comments in it..)
So he is in a tight spot, just like Sitta who has lost his public limelight and will now have to work harder, if at all towards his 2015 nomination. As for Zitto, I suspect his approach will be to outshine Freeman if he can in the House and there will be a lot of CHADEMA rivalry as the Party's leadership races to endear the public at large.
This is all good in the sense that it will mean a careful check on CCM and its dominance in the eyes of the public will continue to dwindle following this election. Infact, CCM is so uot of touch (this demonstrated by placing Anne Makinda in a position to win the Speakership just to spite Sitta) she is a vindictive woman who will try to counter the opposition rather than bring objective leadership in this very important and historical Parliament.
All in all it will be interesting to see who becomes PM and the final shape and size of the Cabinet as an indication if JK has in any shape or form understood what the will of the people means. This mainly being so because he as an individual with most power, technically has more of a chance of comprehending the times (maybe im giving him too much credit, hawa viongozi wetu saa nyingine ni vipofu kabisa) than the whole CCM machinery which seems to be allergic to a paradigm shift and thus less likely to prepare itself psychologically, much less make decisions in light of such a reality as the current one.
People like Makamba are completely unqualified to be doing anything that has actual effects on the lives of 40million people in the country and that is really what is wrong with Tanzania in my opinion. I pray for the day when we could boast a generation of charismatic leaders and who's wisdom and intelligence would put us in a position to achieve a better, safer, happier life, and all in less than 250 years.
Just my thoughts,
KK.
