========
Committee on Foreign Affairs has decided for an objection procedure on the financing of the annual action plan in favor of the United republic of Tanzania for 2026 (53 for cancelling, 2 against, 1 abstention).
Statements from the Chairman of the meeting David McAllister:
“Tanzania is backsliding in its commitments to human rights, fundamental freedoms, democracy, the rule of law, good governance and open civic space.”
“There was an escalating crackdown, arbitrary arrests, violent attacks and harassment against opposition members, human rights defenders, indigenous peoples, LGBTQ activists and civil society organizations as we speak”
“No country should receive EU-funding while it violates the agreements it has with us.”
“And we, the European Union should not send a positive signal to the Government in Tanzania and taking a funding decision is anything but that, while state security is using lethal force against protestors and menaces opposing voices with the death row.”
