The state-owned-Viettel Mobile-is planning to double its charter capital to $4.7 billion (VND 100 trillion). The-government has already passed a decree for this.
The announcement came just weeks after Viettel announced its -plan to invest $1 billion in a new 3G mobile phone network in Tanzania, Africa; the country has a fast growing mobile user base.
Viettel plans to offer low-cost smartphones and free 3G internet for schools, hospitals and offices, in Tanzania.
Founded in 2009, the telecom company is wholly owned and controlled by the State. Viettel had charter capital of $2.35 billion (VND 50 trillion) and is responsible for the construction and management of telecommunications network infrastructure in Vietnam.
Viettel manages a diversified investment portfolio, with focus on-telecommunications, information technology, television, post production facilities etc.
With 63 branches across the nation, Viettel has the largest market share (40.62% ) in the mobile phone subscriber bsde. It has 27 subsidiaries where it holfs 100% or 50% equity stake.
Accumulated revenue for the first three quarters in 2014 is $154.6 million (VND 3.3 trillion), up by 6% compare to the same period last year, contributed $7.5 million (VND 160 billion) to the state coffers.
