Tanzania itajengwa na watu wenye moyo. Elimu ni ufunguo wa Maisha. Akili ni nywele, kila mtu anazo. Elimu ni bahari, haina mwisho.

Tuna wasomi, lakini hawajaelimika- Ali Hassan Mwinyi 2008.

Kuna hali na hisia fulani iliyojengeka Tanzania hasa kutoka kundi la wasomi kuwa kutokana na usomi wao, basi wao wanapaswa kupewa kipaumbele na umuhimu hata kuhudumiwa kama mteja wa daraja la kwanza.

Dhana hii potofu haijaanza leo au jana, tumekuwa nyo tangu wakati tukiwa koloni la Muingereza mpaka leo hii.

The elite group of Tanzania carries itself as if they are entitled to special preference, special treatment and they are the only group that should be in power and enjoy the luxuries of the sweat and daily toil of everyone.

Kila mtu katika kundi hili, hujivunia unono wa Usomi na vyeti vyake mithili ya wanaotambiana ukubwa wa dhakari (ashakum si matusi) kuwa ni tija!

Najiuliza je tuwaenzi wasomi wetu kwa vyeti vyao na kuwapa vifuta jasho kwa kuhenyeka kwao walipokuwa wakisoma mpaka wakapata vyeti, au wapimwe matunda ya usomi wao kwa kuonyesha kuelimika na kufanya kazi ambazo zitang'ara na kuonekana bila kung'ang''ania kutambulikana kwa Usomi wao?

Miye Kihiyo, elimu yangu ni elimu dunia na si elimu cheti, je upeo wangu wa uelewa wa mambo ni batili mbele ya msomi mwenye cheti?

Je mpaka lini Tanzania iendelee kusubiri wasomi wake wageuze hivyo vyeti na majigambo yanayoambatana na kutaka kupata sifa na vyeo kutokana na usomi wao na si matunda ya kazi zao kutumia elimu walioipata/

Ukiangalia Serikali na hata Bunge letu, limejaa wasomi, watu wenye vyeti mpaka vya udakitari. Lakini ukiangalia ufanisi na hata uchapa kazi, ni heri wale waliosoma ngumbaru. Ukipima busara za maamuzi ya wasomi hawa, bora babu yako aliyeishia darasa la nne wakati wa mkoloni.

Hata katika mashirika, taasisi na hata vyuo, kudindiana kutokana na vyeti kunaonekana kuwa ni tija na sifa kubwa na si kugeuza kisomo hicho na kuelimika na kukifanyia kazi.

Mjoli wangu Zakumi kwenye ile hoja ya Nyerere, Ujamaa na Azimio anadai kuwa kila kitu kwenye maandishi kinaonekana bora, tatizo linakuja kwenye vitendo.

Je kaugonjwa haka nako kako katika tabaka la wasomi? Maana kila siku utasikia tunataka vyeo, tunataka mishahara mikubwa, mafao na masurufu kibao, kisa eti "tumesoma" na tuna vyeti kuthibitisha.

Ikiwa mpaka kesho tunachechemea kwa umasikini na hatuna hata uwezo wa kujenga vyoo, kuwa na akiba ya kutosha ya chakula au kutumia fedha zetu vizuri tunazopata kutokana na mapato finyu, kuna faida gani basi kuendelea kuwa na Wasomi au kuwatukuza?

Rais Lula da Silva wa Brazil, ni mtu wa kawaida, aliye na elimu sidhani hata kama imefikia chuo. Lakini pamoja na kutokuwa msomi, ni mtu aliyeelimika na mwenye hekima, busara na mchapa kazi.

Je ikiwa wasomi wetu wataacha kujitapatapa kuhusiana na Usomi wao na kuvua suti na tai na kuanza kuchapa kazi na kisha kubadilisha usomi wao na kuwa elimu bora inayolijenga Taifa, hatuoni kuwa tutaanza kupata maendeleo?

Je usomi au kuwa msomi kwa Tanzania ni chimbuko la kuwa na maarifa na kutumia juhudi katika kazi?

Tuna wasomi wengi sana, lakini bado hawajaelimika wala kuwa na uwezo wa kutumia Usomi wao kuelimika na kuongeza tija, ubunifu na ufanisi, vitu ambavyo ni muhimu ili kuongeza pato na kujenga msingi imara wa Taifa.

Kwa maoni yangu, ni mpaka pale tutakapoacha ile kitu wazungu wanasema "carrying ourselves with arrogance, pompousness and sense of entitlement" hatutakuwa na maendeleo na tutaendelea kugombea vyeo, madaraka na mishahara huku matunda ya usomi wetu na kazi zetu zikiwa ni sufuri.
 
Kabla ya kujibu swali hilo itabidi ujibu swali lingine, rather philosophical, education ni nini?

Sekou Toure ambaye hakusoma, alirise kwenye siasa za vyama vya wafanyakazi na moaka kuwa rais aliyependwa sana na watu wake na kuweza kufanya kazi ya nation building kama Nyerere Afrika, alikuwa "educated" au la?

Babu wa kijijini ambaye hajaenda shule wala hasomi sana magazeti lakini anaweza kukuchambulia siasa with convincingand original arguments, kutoka the school of life, yuko educated au siyo?

Ukijibu maswali hayo utakuwa katika position nzuri ya kujibu swala la msingi. Kama tunaangalia midigrii tu kina Emmanuel Nchimbi watakuwa educated kuliko Nyerere.
 
Elimu sio ya darasani tu.
Hata maisha, uelewa (common sense) na yenyewe ni elimu.....

You bring a good point of discussion here, but one has to wonder where we are headed with our ICU education structure. Ni kweli kabisa kuwa tuna wasomi wengi ambao kw anamna moja au ingine hawajaweza kutofautishwa na watu ambao hawajaenda shule kabisa kwa yale wanayoyafanya au kuyatenda.

Baya zaidi naona serikali pia imechangia kuuwa hata elimu ndogo ambayo ilikuwa imebaki kwa program zake zisizo na kichwa wala miguu.

My mind keeps going back to the creation of the school saga. the government machinery and its captain kept urging humble citizens and investors to build schools so that no child would be left behind in terms of education. So school mushroomed every where and created a huge problem - lack of qualified teachers. As we have always proved that we are customed to take short cuts, the government mandate was to conduct a crash program to get enough teachers. Form four and six leavers were frog marched for a three months teaching training and dispatched to these needy schools and students that needed teachers. What beats my understanding is why do we always go wrong? why can't we have long term strategies that go hand in hand with our long terms visions? It is common knowledge that teacher's courses that took more than a year for qualified teachers (those that has a calling)can not be compressed into a three month package to those that had no ambition to be teachers. It is amazing how we create employment that goes to destroyed all foundations of our education. These teachers that were picked from loitering in the streets come back to our schools with no ethics. some of them are cought selling exams to students, while others have turned these schools into dating games!!

Sasa tatizo liko hapa, kama tunaweza kuwa na walimu wasio na ethic principles, wazazi ambao wanaona ni sawa tu watoto wao kuiba mitihani tunakuwa tayari tunajenga kizazi ambacho kitasoma ila kitakuwa hakijaelemika na ukichanganya na older generation ambayo inaonyesha sparks kila siku za kutokuwa wasomi ila wanatembea na vyeti kila kukicha then hatufiki popote.

solution inatakiwa kuanzia kwa watu binafsi, kwanza kuwa wakweli na kusimamia maadili na maamuzi ambayo sio questinable. Kama naweza kuparaphrase haya maandishi ya White "The greatest want in the world (Tanzania) is the want of men.

Tatizo ni kwamba.. formal education ilipoingia focus was on it being a key to success.." Elimu ni Ufunguo wa Maisha" by then ufunguo huo ulielekezwa kufungua milango ya ajira.. na si milango mingine. Watu wakaelekeza akili yote kukariri, kufaulu mitihani, kupata vyeti na kupata ajira kama makarani, walimu na manesi wakati huo wa ukoloni.Tulisahau kabisa about informal education which focused on moulding a man or woman to be a better person na kumudu maisha na mazingira yake. This has been going on and on.... ni majuzi tu tunaona msisitizo kinadharia ukielekezwa katika kuwafanya watu watumie elimu yao kujitegemea kwa maana ya badala kutafuta kuajiriwa..basi mtu ajiajiri.
Cheti kinaendana na "entitlement syndrome" na ndiyo maana tunaona waheshimiwa wakikazana kupata shahada za uzamivu ( PHD) ili kuwakoga wenzao! ..Kibaya zaidi entitlements sasa zimeingia kwenye kupata "stahili zisizo stahili", kupata mianya ya rushwa kwa maana opportunities and so on.Vizazi vijavyo na hata vya sasa vimesahau kabisa na labda haipo kwenye misamiati neno uwajibikaji, uadilifu n.k. Suali lililopata umaarufu hivi karibuni ni "je hiyo kazi inalipa?"..jiulize " inalipa" maana yake ni nini??
 
Unaweza kutambua vipi mtu kasoma na kuelimika? Kwa kuangalia vifupisho mwisho wa jina lake? Mr. Baraka Waziri BA (Dar-es-Salaam); MA (Nairobi); PhD (USA)?
 
from the day you were born you are being educated every minute by your parents or guardians and the universe. Buildings do not educate people. They can be used to assemble people and teach them how to read and write. Reading and writing thats the only thing the school can teach you the rest its your own willing to be educated. And that will take a life time.
 
Kwenye hoja moja nimetoa mfano wa jeuri za kisomi tulizonazo Watanzania kwa wenzetu ambao ama hawajasoma au hawafanyi kazi za "hadhi".

Kuna jamaa watatu ambao nawafahamu ambao wanafanya (walifanya) kazi McDonald na Payless shoes.

Hawa jamaa, walianza kazi kama watu wa kawaida na wakaendelea mpaka kuwa store manager.

Sasa majigambo yakawa jamaa wame-losti, kisa wanafanya kazi McDonald na Payless, wti kazi hazina hadhi.

Walikuwa wanatoa kashfa wakasahau kuwa wenzao kufikia hatua ya kuwa store manager, wamejifunza mengi, iwe ni book keeping, stock taking, administration, marketing, sales and sales goals/quota, human resource; interview, scheduling, vendor relationship na payments of bills and other expenses!

Sasa sisi tunafikiri kuwa tukishapata vyeti, basi tuko tayari kuwa mameneja na mawaziri kwa kuwa tumehenyeka vyuoni!

Ndio maana ninapozungumzia elite class, ni hata wale ambao ni waalimu wa vyuo na wataalamu wetu. Kama wangekuwa ni makini, basi wasingeendelea kuitegemea Serikali au kuirushia Serikali makombora kuwa Wasomi wa Tanzania hawasikilizwi.

Je wameshindwa nini kuingia katika sekta binafsi au taasisi na kufany akazi ambazo kipimo cha kuelimika kwao itakuwa ni matunda ya kazi zao na si vyeti?

Mtu anakwenda somea Kilimo SUA, akimaliza miaka yake ya chuo na shahada zake, anataka apewe dawati pale Wizara ya Kilimo au kwenye Shirika la Kilimo. Je mbona asiende kwenye vijiji au kijijini kwao akafundishe Wajomba, Shangazi na majirani mbinu bora za kilimo?

Kwa nini tutegemee kusukumwa na Serikali au tupewe imla na Serikali ni jinsi gani tufanye kazi?

Kama mtaalamu huyu angekwenda kijijini, akatumia utaalamu wake kwa kumuonyesha mkulima jinsi gani ya kuongeza mavuno yake kwa kutumia ardhi ile ile au muda mdogo na mfupi na hivyo mkulima huyu kuwa na ziada, basi mafanikio ya mkulima huyu na wenzake, yangeekezwa na sifa kupewa mtaalamu huyu.

Mwaka 2004, nilikuwa Dar na nikawa navinjari kule Gongo la Mboto, nikasimama kwenye kibanda cha jamaa mmoja muuza matunda na mboga. Tukaanza kusogoa nikaanza kumuuliza je kwa siku anaingiza pesa kiasi gani na ni mara ngapi kwa siki anakwenda shimoni (Kariakoo) kununua bidhaa za kujazia kwenye kibanda/genge chake?

Akaniambia anakwenda Shimoni kila siku na mapato yake kwa siku si makubwa sana. Nikamuuliza je ni asilimia ngapi ya anachonunua kila siku kinauzika, akaniambia ni takriban asilimia35%. Nikamuuliza kama anauza theluthi tuu, kwa nini kesho yake anakwenda nunua kwa wingi ule ule wa siku iliyopita na si kuhakisha kuwa ananunua fidia ya alichokiuza, akaniambia hajui kwa nini.

Pale nje ya kibanda chake, kulikuwa na takataka kibao za matunda yaliyooza na jamaa walikuwa jirani wakicheza bao walikuwa wakilalamika kuhusu harufu na nzi. Nikamuuliza tena, ni wapi anapotupa takataka, akaniambia hana shimo bali huzitupa hapo pembeni.

Nikaamua kukaa chini kwa dakika ishirini, kumfundisha pamoja na jirani zake ni vipi wanaweza kujineemesha kwa kufanya biashara kwa ushindani na umahiri.

Nikawapigisha darasa kuwa si lazima wanunue ujazo ule ule wa bidhaa kila siku, bali wanaweza kuongezea kujazia kila baada ya siku tatu na zile bidhaa zilizokaa zaidi ya siku mbili wapunguze bei ili ziuzike na zisioze.

Zaidi nikawaambia inabidi ama wawe na pipa la takataka au watafute mahali wachimbe shimo wawe wanamwaga takataka na kupaweka pale kijiweni pakiwa safi, waweke magudulia ya maji na hata kwenye meza ya watu kubangaiza wanaweza kuweka ubao wa drafti na karata.

Nikamuuliza kama anaweka fedha benki, akasema hapana, nikamshuri inabidi aanze kuweka fedha benki ili aweze kutunza mahesabu yake vizuri na kwa usalama.

Nikarudi tena kupima maendeleo baada ya wiki kama mbili, jamaa akaniambia mambo mdundo, ndipo akaniuliza nakaa wapi na imekuwaje nilienda kumfundisha yeye na wenzake jinsi gani ya kufanya biashara kwa ubora.

Sikumwambia ninapokaa, ila nilimwambia kuwa nia yangu ni kumsaidia hata kama si kwa pesa au mimi kulipwa kwa kutoa ushauri, bali ni kumuona yeye akipiga hatua katika biashara yake!

Elimu ni ya nini?

Hili ni swali la kwanza na la msingi kabisa. Tunaenda shule ili kiwe nini? Tunapokaa darasani na kujifunza tunafanya hivyo ili baadaye kiwe nini? Tunaposimama siku ya mahafali na kurusha kofia zetu juu na kuwa tunatambulishwa kuwa "Darasa la 2008" tunakuwa tumepata nini? Kwa wengine tunaenda shule, tunasoma, tunapata vyeti mbalimbali lakini cha kwanza kabisa ili TUPATE AJIRA NZURI.

Hivyo tunasoma ili tukimaliza kusoma tuweze kuwa katika kundi la watu ambao wanauwezo wa kupata ajira nzuri, na ajira hiyo basi ambayo tunaitaka kimsingi ili itunufaishe SISI. Na kwa kupitia sisi familia zetu zinufaike, maisha yetu yawe mazuri. Kimsingi hizi ajira ambazo tutazipata kutokana na elimu yetu zitatupa nafasi ya kunufaisha maisha yetu na ya wale watu wa karibu. HIvyo elimu basi imeungamanishwa moja kwa moja na mafanikio yetu sisi wenyewe.

Lakini kwa wengine wanaenda mbele zaidi katika kujinufaisha huko; elimu wanayoipata lengo lake ni kuwapatia kile ambacho tunaweza kukiita hadhi ya kuonekana bora ambayo naweza kuiita PRESTIGE. Siyo majivuno, siyo kuringa, siyo kujiona tu bali kuwa na hisia ya self importance. Kwamba na wewe uko kwenye kundi "lile" la waliosoma. Neno zuri la kutafsiri prestige ni UJIKO.

Ndio maana binafsi nakereka kweli nikiona mtu anawaita vijana wa mwaka wa kwanza chuo kikuu kuwa ni wasomi! Nimeona hii mtu anamtambulisha mtoto katoka semester moja chuoni kuwa "msomi wetu huyu". Na mtu huyo anaanza kujiendesha kana kwamba yeye ni msomi. Mtu huyo basi kutokana na kuwa kwake chuo kikuu atataka asikilizwe zaidi, akubaliwe zaidi na astahili zaidi. Na siku ile atakapopata gamba lake basi atakuwa miongoni "mwao". Kwa hiyo licha ya kutaka elimu ili kupata ajira, basi kijana wetu anataka elimu ili impe prestige katika jamii.

Lakini hii prestige ya nini basi? Hii inatuleta kwenye jambo jingine nalo ni KUSTAHILI (entitlement) ulikozungumzia. Mtu amepata ajira nzuri, na sasa ana prestige moja kwa moja basi anaanza kuwa na hisia na hamu ya kustahili. Msomi wetu sasa siyo tu anastahili lakini anaona kuwa vitu fulani ni haki yake. Kwanza kwa sababu "amesotea" na pili kwa sababu anacho kitambulisho kuwa amesotea ndugu yetu huyu anaanza kufanya mambo yake kama mtu anayestahili. Anastahili kukubaliwa, anastahili kusikilizwa, n.k

Sasa katika kustahili huko mtu huyo anaanzisha hamu ambayo haiwezi kamwe kuridhika (an insatiable appetite); hamu ya kustahili zaidi na vingi zaidi. Na mtuu huyo atajikuta anaanza kuangalia ni wapi anaweza kustahili zaidi. The natural outlet ya hii hamu ni hadhara (public). Na hapa sasa utaona kuwa siasa (the most obvious manifestation ya maslahi ya hadhara) inamvutia msomi. Na akiingia ni vigumu mno kutoka kwani anakuwa amenaswa kama na sumaku vile.

Lakini Elimu inapaswa kuwa ya nini vile?
