===============
Overview
Tanzania ranks 90 globally, the lowest in the Africa region. The country also has the lowest ranking, at 91, in the income security domain, reflecting its low pension coverage of 3.2% and high relative old age poverty rate of 33%.
In the health domain, however, Tanzania ranks third highest in the region, at 73, after Mauritius and Ghana, with a life expectancy and healthy life expectancy at age 60 of 17 and 14 years, respectively.
For employment and education, Tanzania ranks 88. This reflects the very low share of older people, 3.1%, who have secondary or higher education. However, 94% of older Tanzanians remain employed.
This year as part of our Age Demands Action campaign, older Tanzanians are calling for a universal social pension and free medical services.
