Zidane already knows what his starting XI will be in Dortmund

During his time as coach of Real Madrid, Zinedine Zidane has developed a reputation as a master of rotations, but when it comes to the biggest fixtures he rarely deviates from his best XI.

Injuries will force his hand slightly, but the French coach will be playing with the best players available when Los Blancos take on Borussia Dortmund this Tuesday.

In goals, Keylor Navas will be trusted with the gloves, as he always is for the big occasions.

In the back line, Dani Carvajal, Raphael Varane, Sergio Ramos and Nacho are set to start, with Marcelo only absent because of the injury he suffered against Real Betis.

In the centre of the park, Zidane should opt for four players, given that the days of the BBC-led 4-3-3 are in the past.

Casemiro, Luka Modric and Isco are all ready to take to the field in Germany, while Toni Kroos will join them if he recovers in time from the injury which ruled him out of the Alaves trip.

Up front, Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo will lead the line, with Zidane set to repeat the formula which worked well in the first Champions League game of the season against APOEL.

Like Marcelo, Karim Benzema only missed out because of injury.

Zidane may have rotated and left players like Modric and Bale out against Alaves, but his reason for doing so was in order for them to be ready for this midweek clash with the Bundesliga leaders.

Zidane desperate to rediscover Real Madrid's goal scoring form

​

Despite Zinedine Zidane's recent insistence that he is not concerned by Real Madrid's lack of killer instinct, and that the important thing is the amount of chances that his team is creating, today's training session in Dortmund suggested otherwise.

The Real Madrid coach is fully aware that practice makes perfect, so, aside from the normal possession games to warm up, today's session at the Signal Iduna Park stadium was almost entirely dedicated to shooting drills for his forward line.

The Frenchman admitted in a press conference that he "hopes" his side can rediscover its goal scoring form in the Champions League clash with Borussia Dortmund, after what has been a very slow start to the campaign.

Zidane, as meticulous as he is, did not stop giving instructions and advice to all of his players when it came to shooting so that this "hope" becomes a reality.

There was an emphasis on crossing the ball from both wings for Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale, Marco Asensio and company to hone in on their finishing, after their early season profligacy, at least in home matches at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.

Zidane is desperate for Real to discover the ruthless efficiency in front of goal that helped them win the Champions League for the last two seasons, and even more so in a stadium where Los Blancos have never emerged victorious.
