Premier League UK

First match of the premier league 2008/09 under way:

Arsenal come forward again, the ball is wide left, Clichy cutely touches it wide to Denilson who sprints the byline and cuts the ball back superbly AND NASRI JUST SLIDES IT PAST CARSON INTO THE BOTTOM RIGHT AND ARSENAL LEAVE! Super goal, classic Arsenal pass-and-move play, and Nasri scores four minutes into his debut!

Arsenal 1 West Bromwich 0

Sidhani kama kutakuwa na mabadiliko mwisho wa msimu huu kulinganisha na last season, 1.Man U, 2. Chelsea, 3. Arsenal -ndio utabiri wangu, anything unlike this will be a suprise to me.

Three minutes of added time being played - and not a single card shown by Howard Webb yet. The game has been played - and refereed - in excellent spirits.

Its Over - lets wait for other matches... ...

Liverpool were struggling at Sunderland at 18 minutes to go 0 - 0

at 83'

Alonso picks the ball up and slides it into Torres, who takes a touch and bursts towards the box and drills a wonderful shot into the bottom left! Super goal in an ordinary game, Liverpool lead - and it was an all-Spanish affair.

Berbatov, Henry or Huntelaar?

Manager Sir Alex Ferguson played a game of tease ahead of Manchester United's Premier League opener with Newcastle on Sunday afternoon by warning of a surprise within the next 48 hours.

Berbatov, Henry or Huntelaar.

And that is the final whistle! Liverpool hold on for the win, Torres's goal one of the few highlights in the match. Thanks for joining us for the first day of the Premier League season - and we'll be back tomorrow, with Manchester United and Chelsea both in action against Newcastle and Portsmouth. Aston Villa also face Manchester City.

Tomorrow what ... ...Chel-sick and Man-ure will be on the pitch. Kwi kwi kwi... ...

BIG PHIL SCOLARI's Chelsea reign got off to the best possible start as his Blues side destroyed Portmouth.

Joe Cole, Nicolas Anelka and Frank Lampard struck to make it 3-0 at half time. And new signing Deco sealed an easy win with a stunning fourth late on.

Luiz Felipe Scolari celebrates Chelsea’s second goal

Poor Pompey had their first and only chance of the match inside the first five minutes. Niko Kranjcar found Jermain Defoe but the England striker's shot was easily saved by Petr Cech. Chelsea were soon at their dominant best though and Lampard's rasping volley tested David James in the Pompey goal.

They took the lead on 12 minutes when midfielder Cole ran onto Michael Ballack's lofted pass and slotted home. It could have got worse for the visitors but James was alert to deny Anelka. The French striker did get on the scoresheet on 26 minutes though when he headed home Blues new boy Jose Bosingwa's cross. Anelka should have added a third on the half-hour mark when he raced through again but his effort went just wide.

Scolari was forced into a change when Ballack picked up a knock, with Florent Malouda coming on. But that did not hold Chelsea back as they made it 3-0 on the stroke of half time. Cole, playing just off Anelka, crossed and Distin handled. Lampard tucked away the penalty with ease. The attacking continued after the break, with Anelka twice firing over the crossbar after the restart.

Cole was sent through over the top again but after outpacing the Pompey defence fired wide of the post. Harry Redknapp's side, in contrast, looked short on belief andf their misery was compounded in the final minute. Portuguese ace Deco, who was brilliant on his debut, hammered home from 30 yards.

Warning shots from Chel-sick? I wonder!

Magpies frustrate United

Red Devils held by Magpies

Manchester United began the defence of their Premier League title with a 1-1 draw against Newcastle. The Magpies took the lead at Old Trafford when Obafemi Martins headed home on 22 minutes, only to see Darren Fletcher grab a leveller two minutes later. Kevin Keegan's men were bright throughout and profited from some slack United defending as they threatened to shock the Red Devils on the opening day.

James Milner swung over a corner from the right and Nigerian striker Martins escaped the attentions of Fletcher to nod a powerful effort past a helpless Edwin van der Sar. However, United's response was almost instant as Giggs floated the perfect ball towards the front post for Flecther to flick past Shay Given. Fraizer Campbell and Martins went close to forcing a further breakthrough after the interval, while Jonas Gutierrez looked lively on his Newcastle debut.

United thought they had won a penalty in injury-time when Nicky Butt hacked down Rodrigo Possebon, but referee Mike Riley judged the offence to have occurred outside the box. That ensured that both sides were forced to settle for point as defences came out on top.

Blunted

The Red Devils as a whole were a pretty fearful unit in the opening stages before their cutting edge was severely blunted. Giggs could easily have had a penalty when his early free-kick crashed into Milner, and Given was required to stand firm amid a barrage of United attacks. At one stage, Given even saved with his head as Paul Scholes flashed a shot goalwards. The hosts' problems were at the back against a Newcastle side aided in no small part by the excellence of one of their Argentinean new boys Gutierrez. Gutierrez's claims for a penalty when he was flattened by Nemanja Vidic were invalid - replays showing the former Real Mallorca player was outside the box - but by keeping the United defence on their toes, he seemed to unsettle their whole rearguard.

Certainly there was no excuse for failing to track Martins as he leapt alone to meet Milner's corner with enough power to send it past Scholes, who was trying to clear off the line. The pity for Newcastle was that their lead lasted just two minutes. Evra was getting forward even more than usual and fed Giggs, who struck a low cross to the near post. In the absence of Cristiano Ronaldo - who was in the stands but will not be seen on the pitch until October - and his suspended compatriot Nani, Fletcher had been given a big hole to fill.

Determined

But the Scot is a determined character, and his eye for an opportunity was to be admired as he stole in to steer a first-time effort past Given. With the second half taking on a similar pattern to the first, United looked as likely to concede a second as score one. Martins tested Edwin van der Sar from long range - but then so did Fraiser Campbell as Given stretched once more to keep the youngster's shot out.

As Newcastle's confidence grew, so did United's problems. Already short of numbers, Giggs had clearly been troubled by his hamstring before he was replaced by young Brazilian Possebon. If Martins had been able to keep his header down from point-blank range after United had once again got their marking all wrong from a Milner corner, the hosts really would have been in trouble. As it was, an increasingly tired-looking Campbell tried his luck before Vidic - who had earlier pulled off a superb tackle to deny Gutierrez a clear run at goal - saw his downward header bounce up on to the crossbar.

Rooney floated a cross-shot on to the roof of Given's net near the end and, having also been booked, bent a free-kick round the post in stoppage time. But Newcastle were hardly under siege as they collected the point they deserved.

Does Alex miss the Portuguese national coach on his side?

Hii ina maana kiwango cha Magpies kimepanda au ni other way round kuwa Man U bila Ronaldo si riziki?

Not really mkuu, apo kuna mambo kadhaa which you must keep in mind!

1. Newcastle to be honest wameimarika this time, walikuwa na tatizo la defence lakini signings za Jonas, Collocini na Gtttierreze nafikiri zimewa empower sana Utd.

2. Then kuna inshu ya the fact that that is the first game ya ligi, no body wants to be seen as kibonde kivile, nadhali shughuli ya Liver kwa Sund..uliiona

3. Manutd loosed most of their first eleven key players, nafikiri even SAF said so...Tevez, Ron, Ander, Park, Saha, Hagro to mentio the few..

4. Still 37 games to come, not bad, its promising coz hata season iliyopita TULIANZA HIVI HIVI (ingawa siku hazigandi)

Hatumtaki huyo mzee badala ya kusajili vijana akina HUNTELAAR or BERBATOV

Last season mlianza hivi hivi seems like you never learn!!! Anyways kwa kifupi tunahitaji world class striker pale, mtu mwenye uchu wa magoli.
