DSTv hawataki wateja wachague chennel moja moja. Wanaona kufanya hivyo kutawaumiza wao, ndio maana wanajaribu kuboresha package ili kuwatuliza munkari wateja.

Six new channels and changed channel numbers kick in.

DStv has migrated its services to a new satellite, which allowed the pay-TV provider to add more channels to its lineup. To make space for the new channels and to group relevant channels together, some channel numbers will change on October 1 2012.

General entertainment channels with international content are now located from channel 101 to 143, whilst general entertainment channels with local content feature from channel 144 to 169.

Documentaries and lifestyle channels sit from channel 170 to 190, and the free-to-air channels such as SABC and eTV are on channel 191 to 195. The SuperSport channels in HD and SD will be housed from channel 200 onwards.

Whilst some channels are being moved around, DStv has put HD and SD channels on the same channel number.

For example, M-Net and M-Net HD are now on channel 101. This means that if you are a DStv Premium customer with an HD PVR, you will receive M-Net HD on channel 101 whilst a customer with an SD decoder will get M-Net on channel 101.

The only exceptions will be Discovery HD Showcase which is not available in SD and SuperSport HD channels which are not scheduled with the same content as the SD channels.

New channels

M-Net has replaced its MM1 and MM2 movie offering and expanded it to six movie channels, one première and five themed channels:

M-Net Movies PremiereM-Net Movies Action +M-Net Movies FamilyM-Net Movies ComedyM-Net Movies Drama and RomanceM-Net Movies Showcase

These channels are all available in HD.

DStv has also added two Africa Magic channels: Africa Magic Entertainment and Africa Magic Movies 1.

This brings the number of SD channels which were added to the DStv platform on 1 October 2012 to six: four additional M-Net Movies channels and two Africa Magic Channels.

DStv customers with HD PVRs also get Studio Universal and Universal channels in HD. This means that there are an additional 7 HD channels, increasing to 14 the total number of HD channels on DStv.

So bondeni wamefanikiwa baada ya kuwalalamikia?mana iyo ya kuchagua ni nafuu kwa mteja.
Mkuu Makeda, DSTV Bondeni wameshalazimishwa kutoa "La cartre channel subscriptions" kwa wateja, yaani wateja waagize wanachotaka sio kuwapa machaneli wasiyotaka kama vile "buffet menu". Lakini kumbuka kwamba hii ilitokana na "Consumer Protection Act" ya bondeni. Inavyoonekana waliomba consideration ya namna fulani, labda ndio maana wanafanya wanachofanya sasa. Sijui kama sie hapa Bongo tuna sehemu ya Act tunayoweza kutumia kuwashinikiza hawa jamaa. Angalia taarifa hapa chini;

DStv, TopTV ordered to change contracts

Cape Town – The National Consumer Commission has told DStv's operator MultiChoice and TopTV's operator On Digital Media to amend their current contracts with subscribers which the commission says do not apply with South Africa's new Consumer Protection Act.

In a move that could have serious repercussions for South Africa's pay TV industry, The National Consumer Commission also wants both South African pay TV operators to break down the channels in its bouquets and give subscribers the choice of a la carte channel subscriptions.

The Commission has issued compliance notices to MultiChoice and ODM.

The National Consumer Commission wants MultiChoice and ODM to allow subscribers to pay for the specific TV channels they want, and want the DStv and TopTV channel selection to be grouped into genres.

TopTV told Channel24 on Friday that the operator can only comment at a later stage.

"We are engaging with the National Consumer Commission on some procedural aspects," said Thato Mahapa, senior manager of regulatory affairs at TopTV.

"We have not yet taken a decision or adopted a view as regards the signing of the notice or

Jackie Rakitla, general manager for corporate affairs at MultiChoice South Africa, told Channel24: "We have received a compliance notice and we are currently considering it".

South Africa's Consumer Act prohibits the bundling of services. The National Consumer Commission seems to regard the offering of separate TV channels together as a single product as tantamount to bundling services.
