Ndege ya Malaysia A/line yapoteza mawasiliano

Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 has yet to be found after going missing at 2.40am on Saturday (8.40pm GMT Friday). Aviation experts have expressed bewilderment and alarm at the sudden disappearance of the Boeing 777-200, which is renowned for its reliability. Vietnamese authorities have reported the sighting of one, possibly two, oil slicks up to 12 miles long off the coast of the country which are consistent with a plane crash at sea.

Malaysia Airlines has released the full passenger list, naming all 239 people on board – 12 crew and 227 passengers, including five children under the age of five.
There were 14 nationalities represented among the 227 passengers, according to airline officials. Passengers include: China 152 plus one infant, Malaysia 38, Indonesia 12, Australia 7, France 3, US 3 plus one infant, NZ two, Ukraine two, Canada two, Russia 1, Italy one, Taiwan one, Netherlands one and Austria one.

A photo has been made available of the actual plane that has gone missing. The image shows it taking off from Roissy-Charles de Gaulle Airport in France in December 2011.

The search is continuing for a Malaysia Airlines plane that has been missing for more than 24 hours.

Marine rescue teams worked through the night to search the sea south of Vietnam, while the aerial mission resumed on Sunday morning.

Flight MH370 disappeared en route to Beijing from Kuala Lumpur, with 239 people on board.

At a news briefing in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday morning, officials said there had been no sign of any wreckage.

"The rescue operations continue... and we have to report that we have not been able to locate anything," said Azharuddin Abdul Rahman, a representative of Malaysia's civil aviation authority.

"There is nothing to report at this juncture."

At the scene:

Asked whether terrorism was suspected as a reason for the plane's disappearance, Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak said: "We are looking at all possibilities, but it is too early to make any conclusive remarks." In a statement, the airline urged "all Malaysians and people around the world to pray for flight MH370". The plane vanished at 17:30 GMT Friday (01:30 local time Saturday).

So what might they look for?

Weather can almost certainly be ruled out as a cause. Conditions have been described in different ways, but the consensus is that the aircraft was airborne in near-perfect flying conditions.

This leaves just two main possibilities - catastrophic mechanical failure or an act of terrorism.

Yeah Sir Jerrymsigwa, Here now it is important to stress, though, that no-one has admitted carrying out an attack. Until some clues appear, everything is just speculation and the loss of the airliner remains a mystery waiting to be unravelled. Let's keep praying for this anonymous event.

My thoughts,

As ships and aircraft search thousands of square miles for a missing Malaysian Airlines jetliner, officials are trying to understand how the Boeing 777 could have apparently dropped out of the sky without warning or distress signal. The mysterious lack of contact and the fact that the plane disappeared from radar midflight is so rare that it brings to mind only one other plane disaster in recent years, the doomed 2009 Air France flight 447.

The Air France flight, an Airbus A330, from Rio de Janeiro to Paris crashed in the Atlantic midway through the flight without sending a distress signal. All 228 aboard were killed.

Malaysia's prime minister, Najib Razak, has told a press conference at Kuala Lumpur International airport that the search area for the plane will be enlarged. He appears to have dealt only with the facts and refused to engage with any speculation about what may have happened to the plane.

I think that the flight crashed due to a combination of technical failures and pilot error. According to experience in flights the pilots sometimes never sent a distress signal as they frantically tried to save the plane. So for this case it might be the pilots appeared unaware they were going to crash until the final seconds before hitting the water.
