MINISTER of Education and Vocational Training, Prof Jumanne Maghembe, has called on Tanzanians studying abroad to return home after graduating, so they could serve the nation.
He made the comment when handing over 700m/- sponsorship to four students who were going to study at Stanford and Trinity universities.
Prof Maghembe said that there were several opportunities at home that would benefit them, their families and the nation as a whole if properly utilized.
You should not be driven by the thought that when you work outside you will become rich faster. If you remain in the US you may work as a clerk for so long, something which may be different at home, the minister said.
Prof Maghembe was speaking at a function to hand over air tickets to the four students. The function was held at Golden Tulip Hotel in Dar es Salaam recently. He counselled the students to maintain the spirit of performance they had previously shown.
The students who secured the 600,000 US dollars sponsorship were Wende Aman and Nellin Njovu from St. Francis Secondary School, Christine Karamagi from Academy International and Dushyant Pattni from Aga Khan Mzizima Secondary School.
The Stanford and Trinity universities have sponsored the students to pursue studies from 2008 to 2012. Ms Aman and Ms Karamagi would join Stanford University, while Ms Njovu and Mr Pattni would join Trinity University.
Prof Maghembe presented the air tickets worth 11,000 US dollars issued to students by IST Alumni Association, which carried out the interviews of the students with the participation of IST Management.
The association was formed several years ago with the valuable support from the International School of Tanganyika. It was aimed at, among other things, participating in charitable and community based projects in education, fund raising and advice.
