Actually the kicker is this is East Africa's first commercial car manufacturer. The Kenyan military makes it's own vehicles already. The Vehicle assembly business is however developed to the stage that a majority of minibuses and trucks on the roads in are assembled in Kenya.
 
JWTZ (Jeshi la kujenga Taifa) mko wapi mtutetee jamani, angalieni kejeli za mkenya huyu anavyoturingishia kigari chao wakati sisi ndo tulianza kutengeneza iyo nyumbu...nyerere alikuwa na vision nzuri sana, hata magari ya kijeshi mnataka muagize? hadi lini mtaagiza...liganga kuna chuma ya kutosha...hebu mjitutumue jamani kulinda heshima ya taifa letu. wakenya wakitushinda kwa hili, basi tutaingia mkataba wa kuassemble magari ya HONDA au Toyota (Honda walishaonyesha interest hapa dsm) kucompete nao...au mnasemaje?

CHEKI HII

Tanzania Automotive Technology Centre (TATC) based at Kibaha in Coast Region has accomplished research and development of its Nyumbu Truck and is now looking for partners to introduce the vehicle into the market.
"The truck is ready for mass production but our centre was designed for research and development only," TATC Design Engineer Ayub Mnzava told the ‘Daily News

"We have approached some vehicle manufacturers for partnership in the production of Nyumbu Truck but the challenge we face is that the potential partners prefer to turn us into an assembling plant for their vehicles – they are reluctant to support us because that would have negative impact on the sales of their vehicles," he said.

The centre, which is popularly known as Nyumbu, manufactured a light duty truck in 1986 and branded it Nyumbu Mark One (Nyumbu MkI). The centre has since been modifying the vehicle while making use of the required automotive technology to manufacture equipment, machinery and spare parts for defence, transportation, construction, water and mining sectors.

The eleventh edition of the truck, Nyumbu Mk XI, was developed last year. "While TATC had been improving on the Nyumbu truck, it has also attempted various development projects like designing clay-cement brick making machines for low cost housing schemes," Mr Mnzava said.

Mobius is not spearheaded by the military, about founders, its a blend of Kenyans and a couple of white people.
Tata and Jiefong (or whatever that name is are not involved)...its a group of mechanics making it big.

Mtafilisika sasa hivi na hiyo biashara. Labda muanze kwanza na viwanda vya STEEL na ndipo mje huko.

Unachosema ni kweli tupu mkuu, wajaribu ku-borrow a leaf kutoka viwanda vya Merikani: Mwaka juzi karibu vyote vifungwe! bila Obama kuingilia sasa hivi kusingekuwa na kiwanda hata kimoja cha kuhunda magari ya ki-Merikani nchi mwao; hapa nchini mwetu Wanajeshi waliangahika sana na project za Nyumbu, waliwahi kuhunda magari ya kijeshi lakini siku hizi wala siwasikii ingawa walikuwa na kila zana za kuhunda magari ya aina zote kama ilivyokuwa inadaiwa.

Mimi nawatakia mema Wakenya katika azma yao hiyo, lakini kama mwenzangu alivyo sema ingekuwa vizuri kama wangekuwa na viwanda vya chuma cha pua kwanza, alafu baadae wawe na a modern forge and foundary shops wamimine engine blocks, cylinder head, cylinders, pistons, crakshafts,conrods, Gearbox, compression/oil rings, Electronic Fuel Injection System ya single au multipoint including nozzle zake kwa upande wa petrol na kwenye Diesel Prime mover wafanye hivyo hivyo, wakifanikisha hilo ntawavulia kofia.
 
Sisi tutawa provide na steel, kiwanda kikubwa kinakamilishwa hapo Bwagamoyo.

zomba, Where do we get the steel to melt at Bagamoyo? From Mchuchuma? I understand about Kamal Industries"s intention to put a lube plant or refinery...I did not know about the steel mill.

Mkuu Sikonge umenikumbusha DACIA ya Romania! hivi Hayo magari bado yapo kweli! Waingereza walikuwa wanayatania sana kuliko Talabant za Ujerumani ya Mashariki wakati huo, walikuwa wanatoa picha ya owner wa DACIA akipiga magoti ameshikilia biblia akimuomba Mungu amsadie gari lake lipite kwenye mtihani wa roadworthness ili apate cheti cha M.O.T! Bila cheti hicho uruhusiwi kuendesha gari bovu barabarani - kichekesho ni kwamba, owner alikuwa anamuomba Mungu amsadie baada ya mwaka mmoja kupita tangu alinunue gari hilo la DACIA likiwa JIPYA!! Magari ya DACIA yalikuwa hayaminiki hata kidogo, hata trims zake, finishing kilikuwa kichekesho ilikuwa inaonekana wazi wazi kwamba ni HOME MADE.

Kuhusu VOLVO na Saab niliona Wachina wamenunua makampuni hayo upande wa magari madogo kwa upande wa VOLVO, lakini Heavy Duty trucks zimekuwa-retained na VOLVO Sweden, vile vile Saab wameuza upande wa magari madogo lakini upande wa kuhunda ndege za vita aina ya Viggen na silaha wamebaki nao.

Mkuu, makampuni ya TATA kwa sasa hivi ni MOTO wa kuotea mbali kwa karibu nyanja zote za viwanda, ila sijuhi nani anaongoza kwa upande wa STEEL kama ni India,Urusi au China. Nimependa sana analysis yako, kumbe unafatilia sana mambo hayo, nakutakia kheri.

Kwanza habari za saa hizi Kabaridi, hivi kwa nini hutaki kununua steel kutoka TANZANIA - unajuaje kwamba mali kutoka India itakua cheaper kuliko ya kutoka TANZANIA, basi na mimi kutoka leo sinunui maziwa ya Brookside wala Panadol/Aspro kutoka kwenu. Hupo hapo Kabaridi, ngoma draw.

Yes Mkuu the Kamal's were toying with an idea of puting up STEEL MILLS in TZ, personally 'am not overly convienced that Kamals have a capacity of putting up such a massive Project! What know for sure are the CHINES in colaboration with NDC have signed an MOA to undertake the SAME.
