Members,
It is with a sad and heavy heart that I once again take to Jamiiforums to register my sentiments, lament and wail against the grotesque injustice visited upon not only the fine person of Hon. Tundu Lissu, but also the very soul of our so called "kisiwa cha amani".
Just as the shocking news that Hon. Tundu Lissu was shot by what I can only call cowardly terrorists is still sinking in, just as we wish Hon. Lissu a speedy recovery, we the peace loving people of Tanzania must find common and resolute ground to demand justice for Tundu Lissu in pursuing this matter until the responsible bandits are brought to justice to the full extent of the law.
Those who are morally bankrupt and intellectually challenged to defend properly their positions with arguments will always find reason,in a very loose meaning of the word, to descend to the lowest rungs of human existence, the desire to kill and maim, to silence and cajole, to threaten and terrorize.
The fact that Hon. Tundu Lissu was shot in an apparent assassination attempt must be vehemently condemned with the strongest language by all peace loving Tanzanians. Whatever political difference we harbor, the resolution must be by the political and judicial platforms, the ballot not the bullet.
Hon. Lissu was an outspoken critic of the government, a much needed one in these turbulent times at that. We must examine, as it is standard procedure in criminology, who stands to gain if Hon. Lissu is silenced?
Let it not be lost upon us that an attack of this ugly nature on any Tanzanian constitutes a threat to the life of all Tanzanians, and even worse, an attack of a prominent lawmaker in the capital threaten to descend the political landscape to some mid-nineties Colombia style failed narco state type of violence.
Members, simple minds will look at this as an attack on Hon. Lissu, our democracy has been attacked. Our constitutionally guaranteed freedom of speech has been attacked, our pride as a nation of peace has been severely attacked. We can no longer claim to be "an island of peace" with full confidence sans qualified caveats.
We have to do something about this, we must do something.
Lest we become desensitized to violence and fall down the slippery slope of settling differences by killing each other.
Today is a very sad day for Tanzania. A very sad day for peace loving Tanzanians.
May Hon. Tundu Lissu recover and may the spirit of speaking truth to power he embodied never be silenced.
A Luta Continua.
Kiranga,
Surabaya.

Siku yangu imeenda ovyo sana. Get well soon TL, we need you.
Wish you speedy recovery brother Lissu.
