City's visit to Old Trafford was portrayed as a measure of their progress against the 19-time champions - and they could not have delivered a more emphatic statement as Sir Alex Ferguson's side were left humiliated and their supporters in a state of shock.

It was the first time United had conceded six goals at home since 1930, and in a second half that turned into a scene of carnage at the so-called "Theatre Of Dreams" the eventual margin of victory could have been even more convincing.
