Van Gaal: Shaw's making positive progress

Manchester United defender Luke Shaw is making positive steps forward with his recovery from a broken leg, according to the latest update from Louis van Gaal.
Shaw has been on a long road back to fitness since being injured in the game against PSV Eindhoven on 15 September and the United boss discussed his progress during an interview with MUTV on Friday.
Van Gaal reported: “Shaw was with his surgeon and everything is going well. His bone is growing and that is very positive, but he needs time."
When asked whether the England international could possibly return ahead of schedule, the manager added:

“Yes, but when I say that then everybody thinks he is coming back within three months but it is not like that, you cannot say that.
“At this moment he is ahead in his rehabilitation but there are also weeks when he is slow. At the end, it is mostly the same [length of] time.”

Van Gaal wants fifth victory over Liverpool

Louis van Gaal agrees Manchester United versus Liverpool is the biggest fixture in English football and the boss is determined to make Reds supporters happy at Anfield on Sunday.
Van Gaal has overseen four consecutive wins over the Merseysiders that began with a pre-season triumph at the beginning of his managerial reign in 2014. That led to doing the ‘double’ over Brendan Rodgers’ side last season before securing another success at Old Trafford earlier this season.
Jurgen Klopp, a former adversary in the German Bundesliga, is now in charge of Liverpool and van Gaal expects another high-voltage encounter against United’s great rivals this weekend. During his pre-match press conference at the Aon Training Complex on Friday, the Dutchman spoke about harnessing the atmosphere of the occasion but warned against the threat of losing focus amid the drama.
Asked if it is the biggest game in England, van Gaal said: “That is how the fans see it and I have felt it four times already. We have played against each other four times, also in the USA. You can see it also in the phases of the players. Last year for example Steven Gerrard came on and he was sent off within 30 seconds - that is not happening so much. We need to be aggressive but also under control and that is always difficult because the passion to play in these kinds of games is very high.
“I know that it is an important match for the fans,” van Gaal continued. “I have seen the reaction when we beat them so I know that. Mike the chef has said it to me also, with his way of saying it. I think everybody is ready to play this game, but you have to do it at the right time and in a different schedule - I think we have to play at five past two on Sunday, which is new I think. We have to show it at that time in that 90 minutes, or 95 minutes, with the resistance of Liverpool.”

Injured Carrick misses Liverpool clash

Michael Carrick will miss Manchester United’s Barclays Premier League trip to Liverpool on Sunday through injury, but Adnan Januzaj could be named on the bench.
Carrick hasn’t played since making an injury-time cameo against Swansea City in the first game of 2016. That was his 400th Reds appearance but he will not have the chance to add to his 20 outings against the Merseysiders for United.
Louis van Gaal revealed to MUTV that Januzaj could be involved this weekend following his return from a loan spell with Borussia Dortmund.
The boss also confirmed that Bastian Schweinsteiger and Phil Jones are making progress from their respective knee and ankle problems, but they remain doubtful for the Anfield clash.
"I think we have the same injuries as before," van Gaal said. "Maybe Schweinsteiger is coming back but that is not sure. It is very tight to regain – he needs more time, I think.
"[Carrick] is also injured; we have forgotten to mention it but he was injured. He is still injured so he cannot play either.
"Jones is possible but [Marcos] Rojo, [Antonio] Valencia and [Luke] Shaw need a longer time. They are not ready yet."
On Januzaj, he added: "We have taken no risk and we have built him up in our way of training sessions. Now he can be on the bench or he shall play in the second team."
