[h=1]Schneiderlin's emotions mixed after United are held in Moscow[/h] Manchester United midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin had mixed feelings following the Reds' 1-1 draw away to CSKA Moscow in the UEFA Champions League.

The summer signing from Southampton played the entire 90 minutes as Louis van Gaal's men claimed a hard-fought point in the freezing cold of Moscow.

Speaking after the match, Schneiderlin told BT Sport: "It's a bit of mixed feelings. With the game we wanted to take the three points but in the Champions League it is a marathon, not just about one game.
It is difficult because we wanted to come here to win, but the most important thing was to not leave here without any points."

After falling behind to a goal from Seydou Doumbia, United stepped up to the challenge and Schneiderlin feels that if the Reds had been more creative, the match could have been won.

"I think in the first half we had the better possession of the ball," the 25-year-old said. "We had good possession, but we could not create many chances. In the second half the movement was a little bit better, but maybe Moscow were a bit more tired.

"We kept the ball, and we made them move a lot which meant we had more chances in the second half. We could have played a bit more direct sometimes, but we know that we can improve because we need to create a bit more."

Schneiderlin also praised the character shown by his fellow France international Anthony Martial, after the youngster headed in his fifth goal of the season, having earlier given away the penalty which resulted in CSKA taking the lead.

"[Martial's goal] changed the dynamic of the game," said Schneiderlin. "He didn't let his head down because that [conceding a penalty] can happen to anyone. Anthony scored a great goal and after that we pushed on but we could not score the second goal which was a shame."

The draw leaves United second at the halfway stage in Champions League Group B, two points behind leaders VfL Wolfsburg who beat PSV Eindhoven 2-0 in Germany.

[h=1]Manchester United: Van Gaal reveals why he dropped Juan Mata against CSKA Moscow[/h]

[h=2]The Spanish midfielder had started every game for Man Utd this season but was left on the bench for the Champions League clash in Russia.[/h]

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has revealed why he left Juan Mata on the bench against CSKA Moscow.
The Spaniard was an ever-present in the United team before the Champions League clash in Russia but was withdrawn at half-time against Everton.
He was replaced with Jesse Lingard at Goodison Park and the 22-year-old kept his place against CSKA Moscow to make his first Champions League start for United.

But Van Gaal hinted it wasn't Mata's form that led to him being left out against CSKA Moscow.
And instead the Dutchman suggested the 27-year-old was being saved for Sunday's derby against Manchester City at Old Trafford.
The United manager said: "I have to rotate. Mata has played almost every game. He needs a bit of a rest."

Mata was left on the bench as Van Gaal turned to Marouane Fellaini, Daley Blind and Memphis Depay, who replaced Lingard after 80 minutes, off the bench.
Fellaini came on for Bastian Schweinsteiger at half-time while Blind came on for Marcos Rojo after 62 minutes.

[h=1]Herrera would not be the first Manchester United player to stand in the away end[/h]

[h=2]Ander Herrera could be coming to a Man Utd away end sometime soon, but he would not be the first player to stand on the terraces.[/h]

Herrera is keen to go on a United away day Ander Herrera is the latest Manchester United player who is keen to sample the away day experience with Louis van Gaal's Red and White Army.
"I want to go to an away game with our fans one day, they're unbelievable," Herrera told the club website.
Herrera would not be the first to stand with Reds in an away end, though.
In October 2000, Class of '92 pair Gary Neville and David Beckham watched United school Leicester 3-0 at Filbert Street to go top of the Premier League table. United's No.7 was even photographed tucking into a pie.
Neville, too, was stood in the second tier of the Shed End at Stamford Bridge in 2011 - just months after he had announced his retirement - and the former captain was filmed lamenting Wayne Rooney's profligacy.

Liverpool supporters reportedly tossed cups of excrement and urine over United supporters below them, and the ambulance carrying the stricken Alan Smith was attacked outside of the ground on a toxic afternoon.

[h=2]Former Man Utd midfielder lays into Louis van Gaal's side after 1-1 draw against CSKA Moscow[/h]

Paul Scholes has delivered a withering verdict of Manchester United under Louis van Gaal - suggesting the Dutch manager is inhibiting his players.
The Old Trafford legend was scathing of his former side, who needed an Anthony Martial header to secure a 1-1 draw with CSKA Moscow on Wednesday.
Scholes, who has not held back in his criticism of United since Van Gaal took charge, said on BT Sport: "You look at the United team, there is no quality, no movement. People are not running.

Scholes has criticised Van Gaal before "Is it the way they are told to play?
"It's all safety playing across the pitch. I can't remember a pass in to Wayne Rooney. There is no movement.
"You've got midfield players who can run - Ander Herrera, Jesse Lingaard, Anthony Martial - stick the ball in to Rooney and run, but there's not one of them even thinking of running."
Scholes described United as ‘miserable' earlier this year.

Martial rescued a point for United But Van Gaal avoided a war of words with the ex midfielder, saying: "I don't worry about that. Paul Scholes is one of the fans and fans can criticise us."
Scholes added on Wednesday night: "Before the game you take the point but when you watch Manchester United you expect them to be better.

[h=2]Man Utd go behind against CSKA Moscow but Anthony Martial's goal in the second half ensures the Reds return home with a point.[/h]

JS74936812.jpg

[h=3]Analysis[/h] Manchester United were awful in the first half but much better after half-time. That might have been because Louis van Gaal switched to a more balanced 4-3-3 formation or because CSKA Moscow tired quickly - or a bit of both. Either way, United finished the game strongly after a first half during which they created nothing and looked vulnerable on the break, and Louis van Gaal got the point he said he'd settle for.

JS74936847.jpg

[h=3]Key moment[/h] United's equaliser - United looked like they were wading through treacle trying to attack CSKA in the first half. But after half-time Ander Herrera and Antonio Valencia carved them open down the right to create the chance for Anthony Martial to score his fifth goal since his move from Monaco. His movement in the penalty area was good but his finish, a diving header that went in of the inside of the post, was even better.

JS74936366.jpg
[h=3]Good day[/h] Jesse Lingard - It might have only been his second competitive start for United but he didn't look out of place. He was as bright as anybody in the first half, attacking down the right and giving Antonio Valencia plenty of protection. He'll be back on the bench against Manchester City on Sunday but he made a good impression.

[h=3]United yet to find consistency[/h]

[h=3]Bad day[/h] Marcos Rojo - Van Gaal was full of praise for Marcos Rojo in the pre-match conference saying the Argentinian could become 'a very good player for Manchester United'. But CSKA got a lot of joy down United's left until Rojo has hooked after 63 minutes. It was telling that, at the time, United needed a goal and Van Gaal still decided to use his second substitution to make a like-for-like change at left-back.

JS74936845.jpg
[h=3]Bigger picture[/h] Van Gaal said before the game he would be happy with a point and that's what he got. He'll know that 10 points should get United through meaning that if they can beat CSKA and PSV Eindhoven at Old Trafford - which they should - they'll have all but booked their place in the knock-out rounds.
