Mara nyingi nisomapo makala ndefu za Kiswahili sikosi kukutana na angalau neno moja la Kiswahili linaloonekana kuwa jipya kwangu. At the same time, the same article may contain a few familiar words that do not appear to conform to the standard Swahili that I learned during my early school years. Mengi ya maneno yanayoathirika ni yale yenye herufi "h", "dh", "l" na "r" ndani yake.
Watu wanaandika, mfano,
aya wakimaanisha haya,
ivi wakimaanisha hivi,
ivyo wakimaanisha hivyo,
erufi wakimaanisha herufi,
uzuni wakimaanisha huzuni,
nazani wakimaanisha nadhani,
zuluma wakimaanisha dhuluma,
karenda wakimaanisha kalenda, n.k.
Sasa ninapoona vitu kama hivi, ninapata kigugumizi kuamini kwamba yale maneno yanayoonekana kama mapya kwangu kweli ni maneno mapya na sahihi ya Kiswahili.
What's going on? Sarufi ya Kiswahili siku hizi haifundishwi tena kwenye shule zetu au mimi nimeganda kwenye karne ya ishirini?
