I have left the obvious, essential fact to this point, namely, that it is the Russian Armies who have done the main work in tearing the guts out of the German army. In the air and on the oceans we could maintain our place, but there was no force in the world which could have been called into being, except after several more years, that would have been able to maul and break the German army unless it had been subjected to the terrible slaughter and manhandling that has fallen to it through the strength of the Russian Soviet Armies.

I have always believed and I still believe that it is the Red Army that has torn the guts out of the filthy Nazis.
--------------Sir.Winston Churchill, Speech in the House of Commons, October 1944
Thank you for injecting Churchill.
It is important to note that there is an account before the paragraphs you gave us.
Without this account, context is lost.
Churchill was courting Stalin very carefully and diplomatically. Especially since at the Yelta conference he was dealing with two heads of states -Stalin and Roosevelt, without being one himself. To say nothing of the ideological divide that would lead to the "Iron Curtain" speech later.
The contribution of the Soviet Union cannot be understated. That is indisputable.
It is also true that the Russian winter and Hitlers false invincibility, heavily induced by drugs, did more to undo the Germans prospects of victory than the Red Army ever did.
On the other hand, one has only to read the history of how King George VI went to Hyde Park, N.Y to court Theodore Roosevelt to join the war and assist Britain materially and morally.
I am sure my volumes if Churchill have many reference to the aid the US gave just as much. I am just not in a positiin to give quotes now.
The Americans were the last straw that broke the camels back.
Retrospective history reads much like science fiction than anything factual.
Having said that, it is without much doubt, without the support of the US, the pendulum if power could have swung in the way of a German victory.
