Hon. Peter Salasya
MP MUMIAS EAST CONSTITUENCY
Mama Samia, please leave us alone. Comparing Kenya to Tanzania is like comparing Kenya of 1982–1992, when our great leaders who fought for democracy were being mistreated, to what is happening in Tanzania today. The way you are handling Tundu Lissu reflects that same era—he has been arrested and remains in jail to date.
Kenya has moved forward. It feels as though Tanzania is where Kenya was 40 years ago in terms of democracy. Here in Kenya, we have freedom of speech, freedom of expression, and an independent judiciary. While it may sometimes face intimidation, the existing structures still allow justice to prevail in the long run.
We also have an active Law Society and strong civil society organizations that continue to advocate for democracy and accountability. We have come a long way.
So, Mama Samia, please keep your advice to yourself. Remember, even both a former president and a sitting president have faced the ICC. In Kenya, the Constitution is supreme, and it must be respected.
