Benitez on brink of Napoli job

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has said Rafael Benitez will become his club's new coach, according to a Football Italia report.

Former Inter Milan coach Benitez, who recently won the Europa League as interim Chelsea manager, will be given a two-year contract, De Laurentiis said.

The president stressed that the move was not yet official, but added: "I've given myself a birthday gift - I've signed Benitez.

"I'll make it official in the next few days, as Benitez needs to end things with Chelsea. He'll have a two-year contract, no longer. We need to get to know each other first, then we'll see."

Napoli manager Walter Mazzarri announced his resignation following a 2-1 loss to Roma earlier this week.

The 51-year-old decided to part with this season's runners-up after four years in charge and said it had not been an easy step to take.

"The moment has come for me to reflect," Mazzarri told the club's official website. "Napoli is a marvellous place, but I am leaving after four years because the players need some new stimulation.

"I've talked to the lads in the changing room and the president, I was emotional and I hugged everybody.

"I thank the fans... and all of those who've been close to me in these wonderful years."

Arsene Wenger is ready to use his -summer war-chest to fund a move for long-term -target Paul Pogba, writes the Sunday People.

The Arsenal boss has twice tried to sign the France -midfielder in the past, and is ready to test the resolve of Italian champions Juventus with a serious bid.

Pogba left Manchester United on a free last summer after refusing a new deal at Old Trafford and has -enjoyed a -breakthrough season at club and -international level.

But despite the 20-year-old’s fine form, the Gunners have been alerted to the fact that he is unsettled in Turin -after being the -subject of racial abuse in a derby match against Torino last month.

NEYMAR SIGNS FOR BARCELONA


BARCELONA have landed £20million Brazil star Neymar on a five-year deal.

The striker is heading to Europe after Santos finally agreed to sell South American football’s hottest property.

Writing on Instagram, Neymar said: "I’m here with friends and family and they have helped me to write a few things.

"I’m not going to hold out until Monday. My family and friends already know my decision.

“On Monday I will sign a contract with Barcelona.”

Barca top brass went to Sao Paolo for high level talks with the Brazilian club’s transfer dealmakers.

And they convinced Santos to part with their prized asset, who could have left for NOTHING in July.

Neymar wanted time to consider another offer from Barca's bitter rivals Real Madrid but opted for a move to the Nou Camp.

He added: “I want to thank the fans of Santos for these incredible nine years. My feeling for the club and the fans will never change. It is eternal!

“Only a club like Santos could give me everything I have experienced on and off the field.

"I thank the wonderful fans who supported me even in the most difficult moments.

“Titles, goals, dribbling, celebrations and songs that fans created for me will be forever in my heart.”

The swoop will see Brazil's brightest talent link up with Argentina's main man Lionel Messi in a lethal strikeforce.

Neymar has scored 138 goals in just 229 games following his Santos debut in 2009.

An official statement from Santos said: "The management committee announces that it has received notification from Neymar that he has decided to accept the proposal of Barcelona.

"The transfer of playmaker to the Spanish team will be sealed in the coming days.

“After refusing a offers of many millions for Neymar since mid-2010, and having implemented a career plan that allowed his historic stay in Brazil for several years, bucking the trend of Brazilian football to quickly sell its greatest talents, Santos finally agreed to sell.

“Every effort was made to keep him in Brazil as long as possible, even offering to renew the current contract, which ended in July 2014.

"At this time, however, it was not possible to compete with the terms offered from abroad, which affected the decision of the player to review his professional life.

“Due to the confidentiality agreement, and by mutual agreement, the terms of the transfer will not be disclosed by any of the parties.”

Radamel Falcao headed for Monaco?


Radamel Falcao is set to have a physical exam with Monaco on Monday before moving to the Ligue 1 club for 60 million euros ($77,460,000), according to reports in Spain.

The Colombia striker has long been linked with a move away from Atletico Madrid with Manchester United and Chelsea mooted as possible destinations.

However, it appears that Monaco have jumped to the head of the queue with the newly-promoted team having already recruited the likes of highly-rated Porto pair Joao Moutinho and James Rodriguez for a combined fee of around £60million ($91,026,000).

President Dmitry Rybolovlev is highly ambitious, evidenced by his capture of the Porto pair, former teammates of Falcao, who has scored 32 goals in 36 appearances this season.

Atletico manager Diego Simeone has already said he will not bear any grudge if the 27-year-old leaves, and Sunday night's Primera Division match against Real Mallorca at the Vicente Calderon is looking increasingly likely to be his last home game for the Rojiblancos.

Monaco assistant coach Jean Petit is reported to have told Radio RCN on Friday: "Yes, we are expecting Falcao and four or five other players of his quality.

"We have spoken and we continue to speak with Falcao and his representatives, negotiations are ongoing. We hope to seal a deal as soon as possible.

"Monaco need a player like Falcao because he can help us a lot and because he can attract other top players, and that's the best way of confirming out project is big and interesting," he said. "Signing Falcao is a big coup on sporting and media levels for French football."

Fabregas to Manchester United?

It is with a little bit of surprise I write this, but our Agent connections gave us this gem of information this morning, Cesc Fabregas will be joining his friend Robin Van Persie at Old Trafford next season. We’ve no indication of fee, contract or wages. But the indication is that the Young Spaniard has decided to come back to the Premiership and Manchester United is the destination.

The La Maisa graduate made 46 appearances with his boyhood club this season, scoring a pretty solid 12 goals. Fabregas has a wealth of domestic and european experience despite his relatively young age of 26, he’s made over 240 appearances at Barcelona and Arsenal combined.

Fabregas is currently 6/4 with Paddy Power to join the Champions. But now this news is becoming public knowledge around the globe that he’s set to join for a rumoured £25m I’d expect the price to fall.

Not a bad statement signing for David Moyes to make. I think it’ll be a good addition to the midfield.

Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas has opened talks with Barcelona striker David Villa, writes John Cross.
Villa-Boas is desperate to sign Villa, and is hoping his personal relationship will help win the battle to snatch the Spain international.
We revealed on May 9 that Spurs had reignited their interest in want-away Villa, who will be allowed to leave Barca in search of more regular football in what is a World Cup year.
