President Kikwete consoles church over the death
The late Archbishop of the Catholic Church Mwanza Archdiocese, Anthony Mayala
The late Archbishop of the Catholic Church Mwanza Archdiocese, Anthony Mayala is expected to be buried next Wednesday, the church has said. He died suddenly on Wednesday while receiving treatment at Bugando hospital. He was 69.
The Communication Director for Mwanza Archdiocese, Father Christopher Kubeja, said the late Mayala would be buried in Epiphany Catholic Church in Bugando.
The archbishop died at the Bugando Medical Centre where he was rushed for treatment on Wednesday morning after complaining that he was not feeling well. It was established that the late Mayala had heart complications.
Fr. Kubeja said there would be a special mass before burial to be conducted at Kawekamo church, at the headquarters of the archdiocese and would be led by the Leader of the Catholic Church in the country, Polycarp Cardinal Pengo.

Mayala was anointed as Mwanza archdiocese bishop after the late Bishop Renatus Butibubage was transferred to Geita Diocese.
Meanwhile, President Jakaya Kikwete has sent a condolence message to the Christian Council of Tanzania (CCT) following the death of Archbishop Anthony Mayalla.
A State House press statement issued yesterday in Dar es Salaam said the president sent the message through the CCT president Bishop Yuda Thadei Ru'waichi.
"I have been shocked by the saddening news of the death of Archbishop Anthony Mayalla of the Mwanza Catholic Archdiocese," read the statement in part, describing the demised cleric as a leader who devoted his life to serve the people regardless of the ethnic backgrounds and in development activities.
