Arsenal are considering dismissing coach Unai Emery and replacing him with former Arsenal captain Mikel Arteta, current assistant coach at Manchester City, according to reports from the English press via Calciomercato.com today.

The reports detail how the Gunners’ management believe that Emery has lost support from both the fans and the dressing room, and if the club’s performances don’t begin to improve over the new few games, he will be dismissed. Therefore, the club have been looking for potential alternatives, from Massimiliano Allegri to Mauricio Pochettino, but now the top name appears to be Arteta.

The 37-year-old Spaniard, who played for the club for five years before retiring in 2016, has been Pep Guardiola’s assistant manager at Manchester City since 2016.

He has helped the club win two Premier League titles, an FA Cup and two EFL cups under the Spanish coach.

Furthermore, the report highlights, Guardiola himself has spoken positively about Arteta, saying recently: “Mikel is ready for the big jump.”

Mislintat wanted to take #AFC back to its player-developing roots and discover talents with the potential to grow in the Arsenal shirt. Midfielder Lucas Torreira from Uruguay exemplifies this strategy.

Mislintat found Torreira thanks to a feature in his own software called 'Similar Players'. It follows the logic of Amazon's algorithm: "Clubs who like this player might also be interested in these ones.”

Eager to add more resilience to Arsenal's midfield, Mislintat checked players with a similar profile to the Frenchman N'Golo Kanté. The system proposed Sampdoria's Torreira.

“I knew him, and I had also noticed him doing well before.” Mislintat said.

Matteo Guendouzi, a signing from second division Lorient, for once, the energetic young midfielder's arrival had nothing to do with data analysis but instead came about courtesy of some old-fashioned scouting.

Mislintat saw in the 19-year-old qualities that cannot easily be measured in numbers: courage, strength of nerve, enthusiasm and leadership.


In his 14 months at Arsenal, Mislintat proved that his way of doing things worked in the Premier League. Raul Sanllehi, however, decided to put more trust in his network of agents. Mislintat saw this startling development as a signal.

His contract was then terminated mutually.

Lacazette is refusing to sign a new Arsenal deal as long as Emery is at the club. Talks are slightly further advanced with Aubameyang’s reps about a new deal, but he’s rumoured to be in the same boat as Lacazette. At this stage very few - if any - of the players support Emery.

Other senior players such as Bellerin, Ozil, Torreira and Luiz are all very much in the Emery out camp. Torreira in particular is considering leaving the club. Pepe feeling very disillusioned about lack of game time. Xhaka will be sold.
