African Satellite World and Sat Gear

Here in Kampala I am using a segmented solid 2.4m PF dish with a WizTech PF LNB (see picture) and SRT 4922 stb
for DigiTurk channels on Eutelsat 7A at 7.0° East Europe B beam. I however noticed that the signal can be further
improved by removing the orange/white cover to reveal a flat scaler. I covered the throat entrance with a small
transparent paper of the type that usually covers the outer CD casing of a new blank CD. This WizTech LNB is
widely available in Kampala at abbout 30K (UGX) particularly at Master Electronics on Bombo Road and also Noor
Electronics on the same street but further ahead towards Wandegeya opposite YMCA.
With this setup I am able to receive the following tps on the Europe B beam:
10721 H, 10722 V, 10762 V, plus DigiTurk tps: 10803 V, 10845 V, 10928 H, 11471 H, 11513 H, 11554 H, 11596 H, 11637 H, 11679 H.
I however failed to get the following DigiTurk tps: 11455 V, 11492 V, 11534 V, 11575 V, and especially 11617 V.
I now believe that an offset dish of the same size (2.4m.) can bring down all the DigiTurk tps here in Kampala.

Pliz Dejumbo, Can this same lnb work on an offset dish? i have came across it while looking for some good lnbs for my 130cm offset but failed to get the good brands. i am also in kampala, if u know any place with good lnbs for offset please let me know.

YahClick Service Partner SimbaNet, and Yahsat, the Abu Dhabi, UAE based satellite operator, are working together to reduce the entry costs of acquiring YahClick high-speed, reliable and cost-effective satellite broadband internet services.
Following on from the positive uptake of the service in Kenya to date, SimbaNet in partnership with Yahsat is offering businesses free equipment and reduced installation charges for selected YahClick Business service plans up until December 19, 2013. These businesses will only be charged the monthly subscription fee, resulting in a saving of up to $ 1,150.
By increasing connectivity across the country and enabling organisations to improve their communication via high speed and reliable satellite broadband internet, YahClick helps businesses flourish locally and internationally.
"YahClick has been received well in Kenya and we are now in a position to offer organisations special perks and offers, aimed at helping businesses thrive. Businesses have a lot to worry about, and good quality, affordable broadband internet shouldn't be one of these worries. YahClick is designed to help drive regional economic development and empower individuals and communities to achieve their dreams, regardless of their location," stated Shawkat Ahmed, Chief Commercial Officer, Yahsat.
Launched in late 2012, and now operational across 12 markets, YahClick provides satellite broadband internet connectivity to businesses, home users, government entities, and non-governmental organisations, helping bridge the technological gap for unserved and underserved communities.
In Kenya, YahClick business subscription prices start from as low as [$157+VAT] - for speeds ranging from 1 Megabit per second up to 15 Megabits per second, with free equipment and installation on most business subscription plans.
Anil Hassan, YahClick Project Manager for [SimbaNet]: "In 2012 the use of internet in Kenya rose by 95% showing tremendous growth in the country's telecommunications sector. YahClick is adding to the development of the industry by contributing to the growth and enabling businesses to possess their own connectivity tools. With ownership of such tools, businesses in Kenya can continue thriving and extending their reach locally and internationally."

Digiturk still a hard nut to crack. No giving up till we arrive there. To the family fta experts, is it possible for one to use an inline satellite signal booster to maximize on 7e? i.e a case where the weak signal is not due to the length of cable but rather due to inability of the dish to pull strong enough signal?(dish size). Thinking of looking for one but wait... what if it fails? please. which way should I (if not we) go?

IMHO, People have already "tasted Faimba" speeds, there's no way they would go back to costly V-sat connectivity for internet. besides you can get extremely high speeds for a fraction of what Simbanet is charging

I've tried this and I can confirm here that Line amplifiers don't make a difference, I've got a Eurostar line amp and I am talking from experience. The best advice is to spend money on buying lnbs with low NF ( like 1dB) and high SNR (0.3dB)

Line amplifiers are used to compensate on signal loss when running long length of cable from the lnb

Some startime channels are fta on ses5 and Chinese channels. Has anyone managed to purchase the openview hd receiver?

No it will not. It is meant for PF dishes. That is why it has a flat scalar. If you have an offset dish use LNB with
conical scalar (Ku and C-band). Get in touch with FRENGWA who is a member of this forum and lives in Kampala.
He has some very good LNBs (and SRT 4922 satellite receivers) arriving this week. You can send him a PM.

I contacted the providers of openview and stated the servise is available only in SA.Surprisingly the satellite beam covers Sub Saharan Africa. They did provide the reason not to extend the service to other countries.

Enlighten the family further about this faimba, cos at my place we are exploited by saf;only 3g in elburgon.

FT Nash,
am greatly encouraged and amazed by your innovation. These and many others are a great souce of encouragement to all of us. Keep up the good job
Building on my previous setup done on 18[SUP]th[/SUP] November 2013 (see post No.2988 on Page 150; https://www.jamiiforums.com/tech-ga...african-satellite-world-and-sat-gear-150.html ), over the weekend I completed fabricating a firm “robotic” LNB arm to combine:

(i) SES 5East; Eutelsat 7West A; and Eutelsat 7 East (plus Europe Beam) on 130Cm;
(ii) Intelsat 20 Ku (68.5 East); NSS12 (57.0East); and Yahsat-1A (52.5 East) on 90Cm.

The extra arm, made of 1-inch square tube is detachable. Due to added weight on the LNB arm for the 130Cm dish, I added an adjustable steel support between bottom of dish and dish mast. A bolt and two nuts at one end of this support is used to “fine-tune” the 7 East Europe beam LNB.

I found that the Quad Eurostar QP4 Gold (0.3dB) LNB has 3-5% higher gain than the Inverto Ultra Black single when fitted to receive the 7 East Europe Beam. Once this LNB is tuned to maximum quality, an extra Stargold LNB is added on top to receive best gain on the SES5 East (71% quality). Finally, a “robotic” arm is fitted on top and adjusted to receive Eutelsat 7 West A. All the TPs on this Satellite (7West A) are stable with quality of 62 - 67% with close to 600 channels. None of the TPs on Nile201 will pop up.

With this stable LNB support that enables “advanced” fine tuning, even the weak TP 11554H30000 (CBS Reality, Discovery Channel, Nickeldeon, Duck TV, Discovery Science, etc.) is stable at a quality of 62%. Others are 11471H30000 (Disney Jnr) at 60%; 10845V30000 (BBC Entertainment etc.) at 63%; 10804V29900 (BBC Knowledge) at 66%; 10928H30000 (CNN etc.) at 60%; 11513H29900 (E-Europe, MTV, etc.) at 60%; 11637H30000 (MGM Channel, etc.) at 59%; 11596H30000 (Eurosport News etc.) at 59-60%. Only the following TPs are ‘scratching’ at quality of 54%: 11534V30000 (Animal Planet); 11617V30000; and 11678H30000. These tests have been done in slightly cloudy weather at 10Pm.

For the 90Cm setup, the TPs on Intelsat 68.5 East are stable at 57-60% quality; Yahsat-1A stable at 63% quality; and TPs on NSS12 stable at 62-63% quality. Using Inverto Ultra black LNBs can add 5% extra quality on each of the three satellites on the 90Cm setup.

There is also an extra 65Cm offset dish that is “downloading” channels on Amos 5 at 80% quality. I will try to transfer its LNB to the arm of the 130Cm, so as to have the 7 LNBs set up on only 2 dishes. All the 7 LNBs have been connected to a Eurostar 8-by-1 DiSEqC switch which is feeding the SRT4922 with goodies.

Well, with this ASAS attack, that’s how I cerebrated my country’s 50 years of independence over the weekend. As an observation, satisfying FTA madness is not cheap given the investment one has to make to purchase decoders, dishes, high gain LNBs and extra fabrication of LNB arms / LNBs.

This ASAS disease is “chronic”!

Hi JF Family, where can I get a Satlink Ws 6906 satellite meter, and @ how much?

I contacted the providers of openview and stated the servise is available only in SA.Surprisingly the satellite beam covers Sub Saharan Africa. They did provide the reason not to extend the service to other countries.

I bought the Open view HD decoder when I went to Capetown for a conference last week. Price was 899 Rands equivalent to USD90 for the decoder only. Its relatively small (about 25cm by 15 cm in size) and has an external power supply. It has a slot for a smart card but uses no card. It requires to be installed and locked on SES5 then activated using some codes (*120*6873# followed by options asking for STB Number) on a South African cell phone for it to start showing the channels. After installing in Zambia I emailed a colleague based in Johannesburg to activate it for me using his phone and it was active in seconds. It has 15 channels:

– Entertainment: SABC1, 2 and 3, E.tv HD (Yeh this is how to get those back!), E Kasi+ (South African township stories), E Africa+ (African movies in english from the whole continent), E Movies+ HD(Western movies)
– Culture and lifestyle: Zest TV (havent had time to watch this one yet), Glow (South African Indian movies in english) ASTV (Africaans movies)
– Children and education: EToons+ (cartoons), Mindset TV (high school maths, science etc), Da Vinci Learning (Childrens general knowledge educational movies), English Club (Sport - WWE, horse and car racing, football etc)
– Religion: Spirit World Channel (Christian), Inspiration TV (Christian), Deen TV (Islamic).

Zero fees for ever!

By the way at the back of the Users manual that came with the STB there were helpline numbers for OVHD in several Southern African countries, so I believe they plan to operate not just in South Africa but sub saharan Africa.

I only got the decoder activated yesterday so I am still exploring it. I havent figured out yet how to access other FTA channels but I have seen under dish setup it has provision for setting up a diseqc switch with multiple LNBs. Its like it has no blind scan but if you manually enter the TPs it will scan in the associated channels. I lost the battle for the remote before I found out more!

Guyz esp.fta nash..pls anyone to pls enlighten on hw to open digi**rk on 7e.pm me pls...would b much grateful am armed with strong 4922..8ft prime focus..n locked to them..

I'm seeing in todays Business Daily that Al-Jazeera wants to bid for majority stake in Digiturk. Could this be a blessing or doom for FTA?

Am new to satellite hunting and am trying to get NILESAT 201 and EUTELSAT 7 W.
Am located in Nairobi - Kasarani with a 90 CM eurostar dish. What chance do I have
of locking on to it?

I hope that your search was a success..Am also in Kasarani and managed to nub the bird and receiving it at superb signal qualities (60-80%) on a 90cm dish

Guyz esp.fta nash..pls anyone to pls enlighten on hw to open digi**rk on 7e.pm me pls...would b much grateful am armed with strong 4922..8ft prime focus..n locked to them..

Adding to this, can one open the channels using an astrovox receiver or is it only strong receiver that can do the work?

Just go to crosat and download upto 139p;and to add to that ;next software should include everything please.
