The ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi has denounced widespread rumours that its Central Committee ( CC) that concluded its meeting yesterday has sacked two prominent members.

The denouncement from the party came yesterday in Dodoma following reports now doing the rounds here, including social media, that the central organ, during its two-day meeting, sacked former prime minister Edward Lowassa and Bariadi West MP Andrew Chenge.

"I am the right source of information, and being the right source of information I have not divulged such words to anyone:" said Nape Nnauye yesterday afternoon when briefing reporters who had camped at the party head office since morning eagerly awaiting confirmation of the reports.

Nnauye, the party Secretary for Idelogy and Publicity, called upon reporters to contact the right sources within the party before disseminating news, saying publishing information that was not true was mislesding the public.

"What you are asking me to say is to reaffirm what I have been insisting on all the time – contacting the right sources of information," Nnauye stressed when quizzed by reporters to comment on the circulating rumours about Lowassa and Chenge.

The party spokesman, however, told reporters that the CC had discussed several items but insisted that some of the issues discussed by the central organ could not be divulged to the public as they were awaiting the final decision to be made by the National Executive Committee( NEC)meeting that starts today here.

"We have discussed several matters in the CC meeting but some issues can not be made public right now because they have to be forwarded to the NEC meeting for deliberation before making a decision," he said.

Apart from dwelling on the CC decision to appoint ten new CCM district secretaries, a task carried out on Monday, Nnauye said the CC yesterday deliberated on the strategies that could make the party reduce dependency on government subsidy.

" Today, the CC deliberated on several matters but the major one centred on ways to make the party economically strong and independent by reducing dependency on government subsidy," he said.

Yesterday, a delegation of two people representing a company known as Phils International was said to have been given an opportunity to make a special presentation to CC on the envisaged project towards the construction of a CCM complex, including a conference facility.

There is no doubt that the two-day NEC meeting that starts today here will attract the attention of the public, considering the fact that all sensitive party issues discussed by the Ethics Secretariat and the Central Committee are going to finally be decided by the organ.

It is the NEC meeting that would also give the final answer whether or not all CCM heavyweights believed to be corrupt are going to be shown the exit door as it was decided by the NEC meeting held last April.

However, speaking to the press on Monday afternoon, Nnauye said the concept of party-cleansing was broader and long-term, accusing the media of reducing it to two or three CCM cadres mentioned in the country's infamous grand corruption scandals.

But Nnauye's statement issued on Monday this week appeared to contradict the first position announced by NEC meeting convened here last April, at which the party-cleansing concept targeted some key suspects in corruption scams-former Prime Minister and Munduli MP, Edward Lowassa, former Igunga legislator, Rostam Aziz and Bariadi-West MP, Andrew Chenge.

Rostam Aziz has since voluntarily resigned as MP and NEC member.
