The tour vans issue was a side show. Kenyan negotiators were going to allow the tour vans to access JKIA. After all, the have to buy fuel, food and even spend nights in Kenya. Therefore Kenya is set to benefit. This was a side show and an example of smart negotiations.

Kenya banned your tour vans because they knew Tanzania was being used by a few british billionaires and their cheap airlines and when you restricted KQ, Kenya gave you bones and denied you steak. They are not sophisticated enough to see that this was a game of chess. They blinked!

Yes it did but that issue was a non starter. The main issue was the British owned low budget carrier, fast jet and the company is not going to land at JKIA!

I also believe Fastjet was just a scape goat..we have resolved a bigger issue now!..KQ-Tz resumed also TZ vans-JKIA Resumed.

Kenya Airways makes more on the Tanzanian route than the tour operators. The limitation of KQ frequency was a bizarre decision economic wise as it was strangling Zanzibar tourism which is the Epitome of Tourism in Tz. Kudos to the two gentlemen especially Kikwete, you rose above the pettiness, shallow thought and bigotry of the likes of Geza Ulole and like minded Tzs and upheld the spirit of integration and economic empowerment of Tanzanians. Let us all(Tanzanians and Kenyans) rise above pettiness, chest thumping, jealousy, xenophobic utterances, and position ourselves(especially Tanzanians) from the economic benefits of EAC integration

Any airline seeking to make tidy profits in this region must focus its operations in Kenya.

It startled me the other day that the JKIA alone handled (in excess of over 200k) more passengers than the 5 largest airports in Tz combined, in 2014!

With such a robust and profitable airline industry...

Tanzania tour operators will now access JKIA as KQ resumes normal flights to the country immediately, following a meeting between Presidents Uhuru and Kikwete Saturday in Windhoek, Kenya's foreign secretary Amina Mohammed has said.

The two heads of States discussed the decision by the Ministry of Tourism of Kenya to bar Tanzania registered vehicles from accessing the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and the decision by Tanzania Civil Aviation Authority to reduce the frequency of Kenya Airways flights operating between Kenya and Tanzanian airports.

Tanzania’s decision to reduce Kenya Airways flights into its territory from a weekly schedule of 42 to 14 follows an earlier move by Kenya to bar Tanzanian-registered tour vans from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.

BARRED FROM TANZANIA GAME PARKS

That measure in turn was prompted by steady complaints over many years that Kenyan tour operators are frequently barred from Tanzanian game parks while their counterparts could freely enter those on the Kenyan side.

Tanzania's foreign minister has also announced the normalisation of relations. The response from Tanzania was seen as heavily impacting on the operations of Kenya's national carrier Kenya Airways.

Both Presidents were in Windhoek to attend the 25th Anniversary and Inauguration of the third President of the Republic of Namibia, Hage G Geingob.
