D4 (direct injection four stroke) , D4D (direct injection four stroke diesel) ni mfumo wa kuingiza na kuunguza mafuta katika engine, Gari za D4 ziko. za manual na automatic , watu wengi wameijua D4 kupitia magari madogo, kama preimio, Rav 4, ambazo nyingi ni auto, wakahitimisha kuwa Gari ya d4 ni lazima iwe auto, lakini kuna magari ya petrol manual transmitted ,kama land cruiser , hilux na hiace yana engine za D4 ( simaanishi D4D).

The two engine types are quite different however. While both have similar internals, the big difference is the way the fuel is injected into the engine.
With the VVTI engine, fuel is injected into the inlet manifold to mix with the air prior to entering the combustion chamber.
In the D4 engine, fuel is injected under very high pressure into the combustion chamber itself (direct injection). During the combustion process, air is compressed and at a very precise moment fuel is injected directly into the combustion chamber. The idea behind this concept is to allow the engine to run leaner producing less emissions and lower fuel consumption.
In theory the D4 engine is very good and is an advancement on the VVTI however, history has shown it does not take much to upset the engine performance and issues such as surging, rough idle and engine stutter are not unusual.
Unfortunately these problems are not that easily sorted out with little product knowledge on these engines available within the industry. This often leads to expensive, unnecessary and time consuming repairs.
VVTI stands for "Variable Valve Timing Induction". This engine type is a lot more conventional and improves performance by optimising valve timing. It is a proven system, effective and very trouble free.
The D4 can be recognised by a large plastic cover over the engine with embossed D4 lettering.
If I recall correctly, the VVTI engine has the lettering cast into the aluminium rocker cover on top of the engine.

Tatizo kubwa tu nililowahi kulipata ni kuwa gari ilikuwa inakataa kukaa sailensi kama kwenye foleni hivi ilikuwa ikizima, muda wote ilikuwa inataka lazima niwe ninakanyaga accelerator hivyo nikiwa kwenye foleni ilikuwa ikinilazimu niweke neutral ili niwe ninakanyaga accelerator. Nikahangaika sana kwa mafundi wa mtaa wa lindi, mikocheni, maomeni na kwingineko, walikuwa wakibahatisha mara waninunulishe plug, nosel, fuel pump na vitu vingine bila mafanikio. Lakini baada ya kusearch kwenye mitandao yenye forums mbalimbali za magari nikaja kukuta kumbe watu wengi walipata tatizo kama hilo kwa engine ya aina hiyo na solution kumbe ni kubadilisha air cleaner. Fasta nikaenda pale msimbazi kituo cha bahresa nikanunua air cleaner... baada ya kuifunga mpaka leo tatizo lile likawa limetokomea.
Sasahivi gari yangu inakaribia km 100,000 za milage, nilishakuwa na corolla yenye engine ya 5A ambayo imeandikwa wazi kabisa kuwa ibadilishwe timing belt kila baada ya km 100,000. Sasa kwenye Opa yangu yenye D4 sijaona hayo maandishi wala sehemu yenye hiyo timing belt, sasa nauliza je hilo ya kubadilisha timing belt pia linaaply kwenye engine ya D4? pia naomba hapo kwa mafundi wako wanaofanya mainternance hizi kisomi hasa isiwe wale wa DT DOBIE na Toyota Tanzania ambao bei zao wanaoweza kuzimudu ni ma STK, SU na DFP
Nimeipenda hii.. !!!! hujaona maandishi ya timing belt kwa kuwa D4 zinatumia timing chain ambayo ina lifespan ya km 300,000 , by then inakadiriwa gari liwe written off, system nzima ya vvti ni complex sana watengenzaji wengi waliona kuwa ingekuwa vigumu kutumia belt kwenye system hiyo , wakaamua ku deal na 'old school' -timming chain.
Timing chain ilikuwa ikitumika kwenye magari miaka ya nyuma , baadaye walibadilisha na kuweka timming belt ili kupunguza kelele, belt ilikuwa ina limitations za kuwa rubricated , na kwa kuwa ilikuwa inapita na kuzungusha vyuma , ni lazima ibadilishwe baada ya kipindi fulan...

Can the 2 technologies be applied on one engine? If no, then why is it that I own a Toyota premio with D4 Engine which hav VVTI and also coupled with CVT?
To me the FSI and VVTI might differ but D4 can only be improved with VVTI or COMMONRAIL technology. Sina uhakika kama kuna jukwaa la Automotives nadhani tungepata nafasi ya kupeana ufahamu zaidi kwenye maeneo haya.

Vvti ni valve mechanism tu , hauhusiani hata kidogo na majina ya engine, kinachonishangaza mafundi wengi hawaelewi hili, mafano mdogo tu, hiyo engine ya 1g ipo toka miaka ya themanini, by then ilikuwa inatumia carburetor , na ilikuwa na valve mbili kwa kila cylinder na ilikuja kwenye mark two box za mwanzo kabisa, baadaye ilipokuwa updated the same 1g ikawa electronic fuel injected( 1g -Fe), baadaye ikawa updated na kutumia 24valve, leo hii the same 1g ni d4 vvti
Vvti ni mfumo tu, na uko kwenye engine nyingi za petrol mfano 1nz 1sz, 3s, 1g, 1jz, 1uz . Kwa wale wanaofuatilia vizuri watakubalian nami kuwa kuna engine toyota ametoka nazo mbali sana mfano 1g , S series, na R series.
Mkuu D4 mara nyingi huwa na Vvti, lakini si kila Vvti ni D4, put it simply D4 ni mfumo wa jinsi mafuta yanavyoingia kwenye cylinder (direct injected) , Vvti , however, ni jinsi hewa inavyoingia kwenye cylinder. The two systems ni updates ili kuboresha fuel efficiency...
CVT ni gear box za automatic zilizoboreshwa , kuna uwezekano mkubwa sana gari zenye engine za D4 , kuja na gearbox hii ,ingawaje sio zote.
