Tanzania in move to avoid oil war with Malawi
Tuesday, July 31st, 2012

31 July 2012, Sweetcrude, DAR ES SALAAM - Tanzania has urged a halt to Malawi's oil and gas exploration activities in the disputed waters of Lake Malawi.

The emerging East African powerhouse wants to resolve a border dispute over the stretch of water with Malawi before exploration activity continues, Reuters reported.

The foreign affairs ministers or both nations met in the Tanzanian city of Dar es Salaam at the weekend to discuss the continuing territorial dispute, according to the news wire.

"Malawi claims that the whole lake belongs to the country according to colonial boundaries … But our stated position is that half of the lake belongs to Tanzania," Reuters quoted Assah Mwambene, a spokesman for Tanzania's foreign affairs ministry, as saying.

"Some planes have been spotted flying over Tanzania's side of the lake conducting the oil exploration activities … there is still room for negotiations over the correct border between Tanzania and Malawi," he continued.

In September last year Malawi awarded Surestream Petroleum of the UK the Rift Valley acreage of Blocks 2 and 3 in Lake Malawi, beating competition from Tullow Oil, New Age, Ophir Energy, Kosmos Energy and the Lonrho Group.

The company is due to begin shooting 5000 kilometres of 2D seismic over Burundi's portion of Lake Tanganyika next April on blocks B and D.

Early this year neighbouring Mozambique put on hold plans to offer acreage in a part of Lake Malawi which it claims. A restricted bidding round was due to be launched early last month but this was postponed due to"unforeseen reasons", the country's National Petroleum Institute said in January.

Jamani ee, Chonde, chonde chonde...angalieni isije kuwa mgogoro huu mnaukuza nyie wapashaji wa habari humu Jf.

Juzi tu nimelala Karonga.

Nimevuka mpaka pale wenyewe wanapaita Boda Kasumulu na wale watu pale mpakani wala hata hawana habari kuna mpaka; wanajiendea tu wanavotaka.

Hakuna mgogoro wowote pale mpakani!

Mimi nyumba yangu ikimalizika kipande fulani najenga nimeamua nanunua bati Karonga!?

Kuna mgogoro wapi? tuulizeni sisi... Labda ,mgogoro wa chenji. usipokuwa makini watakukata chenji pale. Kuna watu wana vichwa kama kompyuta pale mpakani likija suala la hela. Huo labda ndio mgogoro... chenji....

Itabidi tuwakumbushe vijana wetu haya mapokeo.

Nikweli zama zile ugomvi ulikuwa mkubwa.

Hapo kwenye red, sasa hivi kuna swala la mafuta na uranium kwenye mpaka wa TZ na Malawi. So do not underestimate this conflict. Hapa lazima kuna Kina -Cameron nyuma ya hiki kiburi cha Malawi, na hao Makaburu S. Africa mnaowaabudu sana kwa uwekezaji. Kumbuka hao Wa SA, USA, UK and Company walikuwa siku nyingi nyuma ya Kamuzu Banda. Na bahati mbaya sana hawa Wazungu wamepenya mpaka kwenye majeshi yetu, so wanatujua udhaifu wetu (refer Executive Solutions, Net Group Solutions, ATCL and Kilimo Kwanza etc.).

Nikubali, on a serious note, argument yako ina mashiko fulani.

Nitapunguza optimism kidogo.

Mmechek ramani lakini - search google????? ziwa lote liko kwao yaonekana kuna uzembe ulitokea hadi ramani ikaliweka ziwa kwao.

Please note that the spirit of the time was to leave major water bodies (such as lakes) free to all.

And it doesn't state where the southern British sphere of influence ends.

IT'S WRONG TO ASSUME THAT JUST BECAUSE THE TANGANYIKA BORDER WAS SPECIFIED TO EASTERN SHORE THEN THE LAKE AUTOMATICALLY FALLS UNDER THE THEN BRITISH NYASALAND.

The following map shows that Lake Nyasa was left open. Borders of Malawi and Tanganyika each run along the shores.

Lake Malawi/Nyasa row: Time to show strong leadership

By Cedrick Ngalande

Email This Post Email This Post

At around the time of independence quite a few people in Tanzania wanted to claim a huge part of Lake Malawi or Lake Nyasa . Cool heads eventually prevailed, as most Tanzanians, including the legendary President Julius Nyerere, understood the importance of respecting boundaries emanating from colonial times.

During most of Dr Kamuzu Banda’s rule, Tanzania never really pushed this crazy idea of dividing up the lake. The issue was almost forgotten during the rule of Dr Bakili Muluzi and thereafter. In fact, Dr Bingu wa Mutharika commissioned a company to start exploring oil in the lake. Tanzania said nothing at that time.

Now we have a new president and all of sudden the Tanzanians are demanding that our government stop all exploration activities in the lake until all border issues have been clarified. Why now?

Folks, there is a reason why we have tradition. Tradition may appear useless and outdated but it is important because it usually become established after a long experience. In politics there is what is known as ‘presidential protocol’. These are small things which over the years have proven to be niceties a president must or must not do in order to represent his/her country correctly.

Test for President Joyce Banda to diplomatically manage the dispute on the boundary

You would think some of them are not important but they are. Here are a few of them – presidents never bow for other presidents in public; presidents never escort anybody to their car; presidents walk with their arms spread outwards apparently projecting power and being in control; presidents usually put on a solid color (one color) necktie because it portrays power; when two presidents greet each other while facing the camera, each of them jostle to be on the right side so that his palm will face the camera- another sign of power, apparently; when in company of other presidents, they try to be the last one to enter the door – a fatherly gesture; there is an interesting video clip of Chairman Yassier Arafat and PM Ehud Barak jostling to be the last one to enter a room at Camp David. The sight of President George W Bush gently pushing PM Gordon Brown into Number 10 Downing Street before himself angered some British political experts.

Statesmanship is a game because image is everything in international politics. A country’s image depends a lot on the demeanor of its leader. President Barak Obama likes to pat other leaders on their back after greeting them; you thought that was an unplanned coincidence? Just remember, how your father used to pat you on the back when you were a good boy!

It is said that Bill Clinton failed to get a good deal at his summit with Boris Yelsin in Moscow because President Clinton having sprained his ankle arrived in Moscow on a wheelchair. The sight of a sick American president is said to have psychologically emboldened Boris Yelsin. Ghana is said to have regained its respect in West Africa when President J.J. Rawlings arrived at the 25th Organization of African Unity meeting in Togo in July 2000 in a military uniform portraying a very youthful image.

The presidency is acted on a world stage. What a president says and does is very important!

When Joyce Banda took over the presidency, she made it appear like Malawi will now be doing everything the donor community tells her to do. In fact some British newspapers were so pleasantly surprised with this that they called us ‘a donor fearing nation’.

President Joyce Banda went to London and even bowed before Queen Elizabeth, a very strange gesture considering that both are heads-of-state. Well, all these words and actions have now collectively given an image of a weak leadership in Malawi. The world has sensed blood. Now Tanzania has decided it is time to split up the lake. Notice that they did not bring up this crazy idea when Muluzi or Mutharika were in charge.

If we dignify Tanzania’s unreasonable request, one wonders what the next thing will be. Are they now going to claim Chitipa? Will Mozambique now claim Mulanje Mountain?

Government must make clear that no part of Malawi is up for discussion – full stop! It is time to show strength. Tell Tanzania that Lake Malawi was, is and will always be Malawian.

Surprisingly, after all these arrogant statements by the Tanzania government, our government’s response is at best a whimper. The minister of foreign affairs has issued a statement saying the issue will be settled ‘amicably’. Really, Mr. Minister? What could be an amicable statement? Are you planning to even dignify Tanzania’s unreasonable demand? Do you plan to divide up the lake? How can you have an amicable settlement to an unreasonable demand?

Cold war over Lake Malawi continues: Ghost of Kamuzu, Nyerere revisit Malawi
By Wise One From East and Garvey Karvei August 1, 2012 • 64 Comments Email This Post

Malawi: 2012, July: "But our terms are clear on this. According to the 1890 ecoland agreement between Britain and Germany, the border between Malawi and Tanzania is the edge of the waters of Lake Malawi. So we are very clear about that but we will continue to engage with Tanzania as a good neighbour," Patrick Kabambe, Principal Secretary, Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Malawi quoted by Malawi's Daily Times.
Tanzania: 2012, July: "We don't want Tanzanians to ask for permission from Malawi to fetch water or fish from Lake Nyasa. If we don't reach a consensus, we will take recourse in international law." Tanzania‘s Attorney General Judge Frederick Werema, responding to a concern from the Member of Parliament for Mbeya Region (special seats), Hilda Ngoye.
Ms Ngoye had charged that the Malawian tourists and fishing boats have been trespassing on Tanzanian territorial waters at will, https://www.jamiiforums.com/jukwaa-...wi-row-over-lake-nyasa-again-5.htmlescalating tensions.
"Tanzanians around Lake Nyasa's shores have the right to fish or engage in other productive activities on the lake, without being intimidated," she had told the Tanzanian parliament, demanding an explanation from the government on the status of the border between Tanzania and Malawi.

Kamuzu and Nyerere
The gist of the dispute:
T he dispute is about who owns what is, as far as Malawians are concerned, Lake Malawi and as far as Tanzanians are concerned, Lake Nyasa.
According to Malawi, this isn't even a subject for debate. Malawi owns 100% of Lake Malawi and if we are to go by the vision of Malawi's founding president, Dr. Hastings Kamuzu Banda, Malawi just like its predecessor the Maravi Kingdom should in fact http://www.iss.org.za/pubs/Books/Evol_Revol Oct 05/Chap5.pdf extend to some parts of present day Tanzania and even Mozambique.
According to Tanzania on the other hand, the lake is shared and the <span style="text-decoration: underline; http://edocs.nps.edu/npspubs/scholarly/theses/2011/June/11Jun_Msafiri.pdf boundary of these two neighbouring countries should follow the median line in Lake Nyasa.
This is the official stance of the Tanzanian Government hence any Malawian activity beyond this line are deemed "trespassing". The Historical Context; This dispute traces its origin to the Berlin Conference, and trouble is rooted in the Berlin Act of 1885, that was signed by the 13 European powers that attended the conference that formalised the BBC - History - British History in depth: Slavery and the 'Scramble for Africa'
Scramble for Africa
According to documents on the demarcation of the border around Lake Nyasa encapsulated by the Anglo-Germany Treaty of July 1, 1890 – verbatim – the border runs as below:"To the south by the line that starts on the coast of the northern border of Mozambique Province and follows the course of the Rovuma River to the point where the Messinge flows into the Rovuma. From here the line runs westward on the parallel of latitude to the shore of Lake Nyasa. Turning north, it continues along the eastern, northern, and western shores of the lake until it reaches the northern bank of the http://germanhistorydocs.ghi-dc.org/pdf/eng/606_Anglo-German Treaty_110.pdf"mouth of the Songwe, Tanzania, of course, doesn't agree with this, with Tanzanian scholars calling this demarcation http://edocs.nps.edu/npspubs/scholarly/theses/2011/June/11Jun_Msafiri.pdf.
Put to Kamuzu Banda by Tanzania's Julius Nyerere that the map between independent Malawi and Tanzania should follow the median line, in his unique blunt style Dr. Banda responded as below: "We will never recognize or accept this claim: we will never agree to the suggestion or proposal. The Lake has always belonged to Malawi….Everyone knew Nyerere as a coward and communist inspired jellyfish: We know while pretending to be a staunch supporter of the OAU, Nyerere is the worst agitator and betrayer of the cause for which the Organization was formulated. History, geography or even ethnical knowledge will convince Nyerere that four districts to the South of Tanganyika belong to us by nature. It is only that we respect the feasible unification of Mother Africa that we do not claim these districts. All that we are doing is setting [sic] historical truth."
Dr. Banda in 1962 reinforced his claim in addition to the authority of the Anglo-Germany Treaty of July 1, 1890 with some maps from the "http://www.societyofmalawi.org/talks/nationalarchives.pdf. He even went as far as suggesting to Mwalimu Julius Nyerere that a part of http://www.ajol.info/index.php/asr/article/viewFile/23256/19939 Mozambique was supposed to be part of Malawi– then still Nyasaland.
But as is usually case in any dispute, Tanzania is equally able to produce maps that show the median as the boundary, but such maps have never disputed the contents and spirit of the Anglo-Germany Treaty of July 1, 1890.
Pre-Independence Treaties and the Lake Malawi /Nyasa dispute:
The reason this dispute will not disappear any day soon is rooted in Malawi's and Tanzania's divergent views vis-à-vis pre-independence treaties including the Anglo-Germany Treaty.
Julius Nyerere, as the first Tanganyika Prime Minister, prepared a policy document for implementation after independence in which the Secretary-General of the United Nations was informed thus:
"As regards bilateral treaties validly concluded by the United Kingdom on behalf of the territory of Tanganyika, or validly applied or extended by the former to the territory latter, the Government of Tanganyika is willing to continue to apply within the territory, on a basis of reciprocity, the terms of all such treaties for a period of 2 years from the date of independence [i.e. until 8 December 1963] unless abrogated or modified by mutual consent. At the expiry of that period, the government of Tanganyika will regard such of these treaties, which could not by the application of the customary international law be regarded as otherwise surviving, as having terminated."
As a result, http://edocs.nps.edu/npspubs/scholarly/theses/2011/June/11Jun_Msafiri.pdf Tanzania refused to recognize the treaties that naturally gave the lake to Malawi on independence on 6 July 1964 since its allegiance to such expires on December 8, 1963.
And this was the major recipe for this dispute because, it meant that in practice; Malawi and Tanzania now had different points of reference, which explains the continued stand-off.
Parties that have different points of reference in any argument are as good as parallel lines. They can never meet. In the least, it explains where Malawi and Tanzania are at, with respect to Lake Malawi a.k.a Lake Nyasa.
In all likelihood, Dr. Banda would have viewed such a policy, which was supposed to be outward looking but designed in a way that only serves internal interests, with utter contempt.
Any merit in Tanzania's claim to half the lake?
Having said all this one then wonders if Tanzanians are mad to be claiming half the lake and on what basis some map makers show the median line as the boundary. There are several International Conventions that deal with rights associated with water.
Rights associated with water that is not flowing are called littoral. Generally land beneath non-sovereign lakes are owned by the surrounding upland owners. When all the deeds call to the lake, each owner has title to a centre point. This principle is referred to riparian rights and is the basis for Tanzania's claim.
Should Malawi buy this?
From the statement of Patrick Kabambe, Malawi's Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, this seems like a far-fetched idea and one is tempted to subscribe to this thought.
"Indeed, we went for discussion on the border issue and we categorically put it to them that as far we are concerned, the entire lake belongs to Malawi."
The point is: if one person unilaterally decides to annul existing international treaties (like the Anglo-Germany Treaty – which by the way is all there is on this – and both Tanzanians and Malawians were not represented which makes them both victims); why should another person suffer from subscribing to the treaty?
Advice to Malawi: Let's by all means meet, eat, drink together, and talk with Tanzania. But the talking will not undo the Anglo-Germany Treaty.
As Dr. H. Kamuzu Banda used to say, we are all brothers and sisters – the maps and divisions were imposed on us by the colonialists; therefore, let us all (Malawians and Tanzanians) fish and swim in the beautiful Lake Malawi.
But please, our brothers and sisters from across the border shouldn't stop us from exploring ventures that can lift our livelihood and economy.
Just as the learned Tanzanian scholar, http://edocs.nps.edu/npspubs/scholarly/theses/2011/June/11Jun_Msafiri.pdf, quoted William Shakespeare – Merchant of Venice, we will go a step further and paraphrase the same: Tanzania will be taking our lives, if Tanzania takes away the means by which we want to prosper and live!

Of course, Tanzania and Mozambique are concerned about oil exploration in the lake!
Even though it's "our" lake, they fish in it; they bathe in it; they water their crops from it; they rely on it just as we do in Malawi. If there is an oil spill disaster, for example, they will also be seriously affected.
Let them voice their (justifiable) concerns… just as long as they accept once and for all that the lake is Malawi's.

This lake belongs to Malawi read the treaty 1890. Claiming any portion is a provocation .Tanzania stop it. The only sober request which we can consider should be asking Malawi not to explore oil because any spillage will affect them since they also depend on it for there livelihood period. We have already been kind to allow them to fish swim and use it without asking them to pat tax for usage. This is too much kindness and not foolishness. However this neighbour should not take our kindness too far.

now I see how U Malawians are trying to mess up with our national interest on lake Nyasa. It is doubtless internationally recognized that borders in water bodies should cut across to divide the given water body,ie,Lake Nyasa is to be divided into halves for both countries to posses a share of it

We have a leadership that the chewas would characterise as "Chimangeni mapiko ana asewere nacho". The western donor community is already cashing on this weak leadership. The IMF versus Malawi game has become a one way game. The nigeria prophets are also cashing on it. The Tanzanians know that JB is weak and does not have the backbone to deal with the lake Malawi/lake nysasa conflict. Malawi has become a joke in the diplomatic cycles.

Hi Fellow Malawians.
I must declare interest that I am a Tanzanian. I am a man of full age. Since my childhood I was taught that Lake Nyasa is shared by Malawi, Mozambique and Tanzania. It is not true that Tanzanians are now demanding split of the lake at this time. Personally I have been shocked by news that the lake belongs to Malawi only, even Mozambique is ignored at this time, I don't know why. Even most international maps show the border of Malawi and Tanzania to be on the lake's center line.
In view of the above, it is my opinion that let us sit down together and each party present justification of the ownership of the lake, in case no amicable solution will be reached we will go for international arbitration. There is no need for war! Overall in case war will be the only solution, there is no doubt Malawi will be defeated forthwith. If the war will be longer, it will never take more than a week to settle the issue, but why war?
This dispute is mainly influenced by Great Britain after WWII, remember that Burundi and Rwanda were part of German East Africa but later GBR offered the same to Belgium and today are free countries as you all understand. It is true that the agreement of 1890 favors Malawi as the sole owner of the lake, during the rule of GBR in Tanganyika, the same GBR allowed sharing of the lake on the center line as per our claim today, indeed international law recognizes sharing of water bodies through the center line. Tanganyika became independent in 1961 at that time Nyasaland (Malawi) was still under the GBR colonialship, sharing of the lake continued till 1964 when Nyasaland became independent. Dr. Kamuzu Banda initiated the move of claiming 100% ownership of the lake, he also pursuaded Nyerere that lake Tanganyika is solely owned by Tanganyika thus Zaire (DRC), Burundi and Zambia have no right to use the waters of the same; he further persuaded Nyerere to take part of Mozambique (the Makonde area) to Tanganyika and the remaining be taken by Malawi, these ideas did not reach the Nyerere's consideration. It is indeed clear that there was no good relationship between Banda and Nyerere due to different perceptions on South Africa's apartheid regime of the Boers, Banda was supporting them while Nyerere was against them. So, the lake Nyasa dispute remained unsettled up to date. Since Malawi has engaged a company to explore gas and oil for the entire lake, Tanzania is now seeking for amicable solution before exploration is concluded.
We in Tanzania believe that ‘Watanzania wote ni ndugu zangu na Afrika ni moja' which means ‘all Tanzanians are my brothers and sisters and Africa is one'. There is no advantage at all of killing our brothers and sisters in Malawi.
Lets us opt for diplomatic solution.
Almighty God bless Africa, bless Malawi and bless Tanzania.

This is a twist in the tail. These are problems of our own making because when it was announced that a company was undertaking a feasibility study on the prospects of drilling oil deposits in the disputed lake, many Malawians living along the lake voiced out vehemently. Some of this noise opened up eyes of these same people claiming that the lake is also theirs.
I attended a course at a Military college in TZ and they talked quite a lot of bad things about Malawi, some of it very demeaning. The lake issue was also touched whereby they still believe that Malawi should have consulted them first before changing the name from Lake Nyasa to Malawi; saying that looking at the geographical formation of Malawi it would simply take them something like 10 – 15 minutes to fly their jet fighters from Chitipa to Nsanje then back to base in TZ, that at one point Malawi was almost shared between TZ/Zambia and Mozambique due to poverty. During the Kamuzu era they at one time mobilised their forces onto the borders waiting for the advancing Malawi Defence Force personnel who too (it was believed) were ready for battle. I told them that their intelligence had fed them with very wrong information because we were in barracks doing our own thing.
I am therefore not surprised that they have decided to take advantage of the leadership weaknesses which is very unfortunate indeed. We just hope all will be handled professionally; this is why we have learned Malawians in the fields of International Relations, International Conflicts, Political/Military/Police experts etc who should now be in the forefront advising the Head of State.

Dont under estimate the power of a woman. We have accused the late president of not being diplomatic with our neighbours. Have you ever seen njoka mbobo? You may insult Joyce Banda for being quite but you if she had said something aggresive you would accused her of being undiplomatic. No one is going get our lake. They are free to bathe in it but not take it. If you are baying for war, there will be no war. Stop being ninnies.

You Malawians,
We are coming mother ****er; we will eat you like a breakfast. Do not ever play with Tanzania – the only African country that has won every war it fought. We have fought many wars than any country in Africa and yet we have never fought a civil war – and that should tell you a lot. Remember the war we fought in Mozambique and Angola in the early 1970s to get rid of the Portuguese; then another one in Zimbabwe to get rid of Ian Smith in the late 1970s; then another one in South Africa to teach the Boers that they can't rule Africans; we fought several times in the Comoros and Seychelles during the 1970s, and won in every military operation – all these before kicking Idi Amin out of Uganda with a thunder in 1979. Kenyans fear us like lions of the Serengeti and they are not mistaken. Mind you – we have the largest reserve army in Africa and one the highly disciplined and well-trained army in the continent. We will finish you. The British even said Tanzania more marshal tribes than any colony they had in Africa – it was a not a joke.
We will make you our dinner.
Here speaks a Tanzanian ready for war.

I've said it from day one and i'll continue to say it until this woman and her childish government is booted out of office, she is a weak, copy & paste, unprepared, barefoot president that is in way over her head and is more suitable running a donor funded NGO than running a country! No country prospers by being nice, this is a dog eat dog world and you cant go around begging and groveling to Zambian, Mozambicans, Tanzanians, South Africans and anybody else with such pathetic ‘help us we are poor and weak' attitude. This is a dog eat dog world and fear/weakness is smelt a mile away. People don't help the weak, they take advantage of them!
Look at the US and UK whom you admire so much abiti mtila, do you think they were being nice when dropping bombs and daisy cutter on the poor people in Iraq? Were they being nice when they colonised our continent? Who are you trying to emulate when you act so nicely apologizing for being proud Malawian the way Kamuzu, Bingu, and even Bakili were? Kamuzu never took nonsense, Bingu never took nonsense, even Bakili told donors to go to hell when they went too far. Do you think all these proud Malawian men were stupid when they stood up and occasionally beat their chests? No they weren't, they knew how the power game is meant to be played. Nothing good comes from displaying weakness and timidity.
Do you think all those street kids begging in our streets are treated well and assisted or respected by the rest of the population? Nope! They get a few coins here and there but are mostly chased away, raped, beaten and sometimes killed by those who take advantage of their weakness. Do you want to turn us into begging street kids abiti?? These Taifas have smelt the filthy stench of weakness that is emanating from your garments abiti mtila and kikwete and his boys have decided to lift your skirt in public, what are you going to do? negotiate?? To hell with these Taifas, they want a fight let the bastards have it. War is not about numbers, its about skills and getting the right allies on your side. Sadam's Iraq was bigger and stronger than Kuwait when it decided to invade Kuwait, what happened to it? Eritrea is smaller and weaker than Ethiopia, how come the Ethiopians don't just walk in and take it over?
These half baked Tanzanian Arabs should not get any niceties for spitting in our faces, this is the time for you to call Kikwete out in public and let him declare his intentions in the open. Lets see him publicly declare that he wants 50% of lake Malawi and embarrass himself in public. And for God's sake get a proper cabinet in place so that real men can respond to these Taifas. I was embarrassed to see Chiume and Kunkuyu talking nonsense on TV virtually apologizing to the Tanzanians for having the lake. What manner of men are these? By the way Khumbo met for discussions with Kikwete at the AU meeting, what the hell did he say??
And please read proper books abiti mtila, since you weren't born with the stuff you may as well cram it if its not too late. Start with ‘The Prince' by Niccolo Machiavelli.
"It is much more secure to be feared than to be loved."
"The fact is that a man who wants to act virtuously in every way necessarily comes to grief among so many who are not virtuous."
"The first method for estimating the intelligence of a ruler is to look at the men he has around him."
" There is no avoiding war; it can only be postponed to the advantage of others."
After "The Prince" read "The Art of War" by Sun Tzu.
"The art of war teaches us to rely not on the likelihood of the enemy's not coming, but on our own readiness to receive him; not on the chance of his not attacking, but rather on the fact that we have made our position unassailable."
Abiti Mtila, there is no need to negotiate with somebody who brings filth to the table. Would you negotiate with a Tanzanian harlot if she came to claim half of Richard ‘shoeshine' Banda?
Even Jesus took up a whip and wrecked havoc at those who dared to turn his father's house into a market. God himself destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah. STOP being nice and smiling to foreigners all the time. Take some of that venom you are happily using to bully those who were close to late Bingu and use it when dealing with these Tanzanians.
Death to any Tanzanian who dares to lay claim on our Lake Malawi, we are ready to die for it. No negotiation.

To our friends from accross Lake Malawi, never be fooled, war will not grant you Lake Malawi.
You can boast of having being involved in many wars, but this will not help you grab what is not yours.
In our vernacular, we have a saying which I will literally translate for your benefit: ´it is not one who stays on the market longer, who is the best marketer`.
The closest equivalent to this is: ´victory in battle is not for the strongest, nor the race for the swift but for those who can endure it‘.
And we Malawians, are enduring.
Try anything stupid, and you will regret. Swim in our lake, we will not bar you. Draw and drink the water from therein, we will not stop you. Fish in it, there is enough for all of us.
BUT try to take the lake by force, you will know what made the guinea fowl bald – be warned, the Oracle has spoken.
We Malawians will not be intimidated into giving away our heritage! Wafa wafa, fisi anadya mkazake!

To the foolish backward Tanzanians posting nonsense, go to your stupid Swahili blogs. You think by defeating a lunatic Idi Amin makes you a super power? You were all brainwashed by another lunatic in the name of Nyerere. Despite all the bragging about that war, it were the Ugandans themselves that won that war. You only found an already defeated lunatic Amin and your own lunatic Nyerere made you believe you won the war. Anyway, that's not the main issue here but I just wanted to shed some light into what your god Nyerere hid from you.
Lake Malawi is only shared between Malawi and Mozambique. You backward Tanzanians deal with it! You cannot unilaterally abolish the 1890 agreement to suit your greed. Can't you ask yourself why Malawi agrees that it shares the lake with Mocambique and not you? Go to hell you Nyerere worshipers!

We can take these Taifa's with the right strategy, their military is too old fashioned in its structure.
5 × infantry brigade
1 × tank brigade
3 × artillery battalion
2 × air defence artillery battalion
1 × mortar battalion
2 × anti-tank battalion
121st Engineer Regiment
1 × central logistic/support group
Yes they have an air force but its in very bad shape. Mostly made up of second hand crafts bought from Iraq, Iran or stolen from Idi Amin's Uganda.
They have 27,000 active troops altogether, we have around 26,000. Our troops are professionally trained and we are known worldwide for the skills and discipline of our soldiers, let these Swahili's not dare to make the mistake of underestimating the might of the Malawian army or the pride of its people, lest they pay a bloody price.

Malawi is a very dangerous country with a disciplined military force, ask the Mozambicans. malawi has the back up of both USA and great Britain. This is day time robbery, Lake Malawi belongs 100% to Malawi, the boundary has been there since 1890. Why stick to Malawi's old name "Nyasa" when the country's name has changed. Even the old name you are sticking to belongs to Malawi for God's sake!!! You bunch of thieves, we are ready to smoke you out. Now I am convinced that the Tanzanians have no evidence backing their claim. I repeat you can't win the battles of today by making reference to that insignificant battle with the lunatic Amin. You Tanzanians you have a very big problem. The crook Nyerere just brainwashed you with the false claim but did not leave you enough backing evidence. All you have is the proclamation of the false strength of your army (another brainwashing dosage from Nyerere I presume). So all of you Tanzanians subleased your brains to that moron Nyerere? Now that Nyerere is six feet under, all you have are those senseless rantings. No wonder you are the most incompetent people in the East African Community. Why can't you be as sharp as the Kenyans and Ugandans? Bring facts why we should share our beautiful lake with us. We are not as bad as you think. Maybe we may consider your request (with so many conditions attached of course). Stop making your empty threats based on some useless battles with tiny islands and one lunatic president.
Stop bragging about your military and that God forsaken and primitive country TZ. Your army is not one of the most respected in that part of Africa. I have respect for Rwanda, Ethiopia, Kenya and Uganda when it comes to military discipline and tactics but not your army that bullies innocent citizens in Kariakoo. So stop bragging about your military. It is becoming so monotonous and boring. Bring something to your arguments not that baseless arrogance.
I know much about your country that is hidden from you by your politicians. So stop acting out of ignorance. I wish I could have your private contact details so that I open up your eyes. Otherwise, I feel sorry for you because your innocence and ignorance is now becoming more and more conspicuous.

No man owns the lake, god does, if you think you own it you are wrong, and you will definitely loose,We regard Malawians as our dear brothers, we share the common interests, why do you dislike the sharing of Lake? while you know that the other part is ours?Let us settle our differences in PEACE, Why killing each other for the thing that has been granted to us freely by mother nature?(GOD)

Your Permanent Secretary in Malawi's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Patrick Kabambe, so arrogantly saying that Lake Nyasa (Malawi?) being inside of, and as such, part of Malawi. From his tone, I entertain grave doubts whether such a 'hothead", would even "stoop" so low as to sit on a negotiating table!
The Heligoland treaty referred was a "Temporally settled colonial disputes between Germany and Great Britain" and clearly stated at Article VI that "Any correction of the demarcation lines described in Articles I to IV that becomes necessary due to local requirements may be undertaken by agreement between the two powers. It is understood, in particular, that commissioners will meet as soon as possible to undertake such a correction with regard to the borders described in Article IV. Article VII.
It is quite interesting that the fellow does not seem to be aware of the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea of 10th December, 1982, which came into force on 16th November, 1994. This Convention became necessary due to increasing disputes relating to water resources-fishing, minerals (oil and gas) and the shifting of boundaries due to natural causes. This is the principal law governing disputes relating to water bodies. By the way, the Convention applies to lakes, rivers and other waterways-the Suez, the Panama Canals etc.
As per this convention, the international community agreed that for states sharing a water resource, the boundary between them should be to part the water body equally to those who share it.
Tanzania ratified the Convention and pledged to be bound by it on 30th September, 1985 (being the 24th country do so). But the mother of all surprises, is that this same Malawi ratified and undertook to be bound by the Convention on 28th September, 2010,(being the 161st), probably after a long soul-searching.
Under International law, the Convention is superior to any other arrangement. The Heligoland Treaty that Malawi is holding up as its ace has no force in International law. I don't know why you seemed to turn a blind eye to this ‘naked truth"
The contributor here does not purport to be an expert on the Law of the Sea, but this country boasts of such luminaries in the field like none other than our own Joseph Sinde Warioba and Ambassador James Kateka who have variously served as Judges in matters relating to the law of the sea.
On the other hand, Malawi has only a Mr. Munthali who saw us being doomed in the Dowans' case!
In law there is a maxim that ‘things speak for themselves"-res ipsa loquitur. From what said Kabambe fellow, it did not sound like you are prepared for tete-a-tete negotiations. As a prelude, Tanzania may send a protest note-a note verbale-and gauge the response, after which then the matter may go the International Arbitral bodies.
It is pertinent at this juncture to point out that these joint-Commissions have been in existence since the days of Hastings Kamuzu Banda. Malawi's arrogance met equal force in Mwalimu's no nonsense stance.
Now why do people think they can fool around Tanzanians?

I would advise you Malawians, to work on the basic problems your facing right now, like hunger, health, education and so on, Lake Nyasa belongs to triple countries, Tanzania, Mozambique and Malawi, it's a strange move that, you people came up with a silly "story" that the entire Lake belongs to Lilongwe!!!!, this is a stupid avow.
I'm afraid that, you Malawi people have the same silly thinking like your idiot president, Joyce Banda, who at one time supports the white custom of allowing homosexual. Gay marriage for Africans is out of our tradition you don't know that??.
In May 18, 2012, your president Joyce Banda has said she wants Malawi to overturn its ban on homosexual acts – (To allow the same sex marriage), today you came up with statement that, Lake Nyasa is 100 percent yours, are you crazy???
Tell your government and the Sureteam Oil Company to immediately halt all exploration of oil and gas within Tanzanian waters; otherwise you will face music
Let me tell you guy called Spawk, what you have seen at Kariakoo is not the army men, and if you want to see the TPDF troops, continue to explore within our water

No name-calling and such nonsense will solve the issue.
The whites came and found riparian communities AROUND the lake existing in harmony for centuries. Borders were placed for their own greedy intents. Surely, common sense dictates the RIGHTS of those riparian communities to derive their livelihoods from the lake as it was during the times before the whites came.
For Malawi to deny their fellow Tanzanian the right to exist the way they did all along their lifetime simply because of the borders drawn by foreigners for their own use is, to say the least, despicable.
I despise name calling but our brothers should be aware that they are reminding the rest of the African countries, who they really are, "TRAITORS of the African liberation who were ready to sacrifice their fellow Africans to please their masters and now, adding on another title of GREEDY housemaids" out to sacrifice SADC security for few oil dollars. Shame on you JUDAS.

To me the nonsense the intellectually challenged Tanzanians are making is a blessing in disguise. I think as Malawi we, have undeservedly, been a hinter land( landlocked)for a long time. This is our chance to pre-emptly cut the hand of the potential aggressor. All Tanzania is trying to do is to sit on our tentacles taking advantage of our congeniality. My fellow Malawians, this is the golden opportunity to extend our frontiers to the Indian ocean. We will follow the Ruvuma river and capture 50KM stretch of land north of Ruvuma river down to the Indiana ocean. We have always wanted to have direct access to the ocean. We have now a doubled appetite to have this access to the Indian ocean especially with our ever increasing bilateral economic activities with souht-east asian countries. This is the chance to take feeble Tanzania head-on. In fact we should have already started military warm-ups along the shore of L.Malawi bordering the increasingly stinking noise making Tanzanians. For me its better to die in the battle front than watch L.Malawi divided. History, geography all count too strongly against the baseless claims by the Tanzanians who lack peace with not only Malawi but also other neighbours like Uganda and Kenya. There is nothing like amicable solution with nonsense. We dont need to exercise patience like a man who stands on a long queue waiting to **** his own wife.

The Border goes beyond the Eastern Shores of Lake Malawi, because the border followed the watershade of the rivers that flow into the lake and the rivers that flow into Indian Ocean. The language of these people is similar to Malawian Kinyachusa. This claim Kamuzu mentioned silenced the then President Nyerere who himself had accentral linkaged to the areas under this watershde boundries. To the West it was supposed to be Luangwa River running literalry from the Chitipa enclave to where it flows into the Zambezi. and Zambezi formed the boundary for the Malavi Empire. Malawi accepted the colonial boundaries then and now. Malawi is bigger than what we are if if follow what Tanganyika claims. Songea and Kyela are in Malawi terrotory basing on the Historical facts.

The context of the Anglo – German agreement of 1901 apparently clarified or changed the location of the
boundary from the northern bank of the Songwe to the thalweg or middle of the bed. Section 2 of the
agreement states, "In all cases where a river or stream forms a boundary, the ‘thalweg' is to be
distinguished, it shall be the middle of the bed." Likewise, the agreement of 1901 clarified that part of
the 1890 agreement which stated the boundary followed the Songwe to the point where it approaches
most nearly the boundary of the geographical Congo Basin.

It is better you tell the people of Malawi the truth over the claim ,Tanzania is not complaining over the whole lake but the half of it.so many arguments were made in year 1950′s between the tanganyika representative house and the colonial master over the lake but because tanganyika was trusted teriritory British could not allow the tanganyika to use the lake,1967 Nyerere and Banda tried to settle the matter but Banda did not make publicity of it,from there the boundary started from the mouth of songwe river running the middle of the lake.banda was not happy with Nyerere ‘s publicity band disagreed with Nyerere ‘s startments over the boundaries .in 1982 the international law was formed and Malawi signed the law that stats where the two countries are blundered by river, lake, sea the boundary will be at the middle of the water body..why Tanzania is claiming,Tanzania has been using the lake in navigation and fishing activities ,and u can't claim over some one when there is nothing to claim, since Malawi started exploring gas and oil in the lake beyond the middle of the lake in the side of Tanzania that made starting point over the claim.we are now insisting the activities to stop because we know the next stage that follows will be unsafe to the brothers and sisters in Malawi ,we got soldiers as twice the population in Malawi ,we have everything in army,we have seen our men match southern of the country ready for the following stage.we were able to take Comoros within 48 hours,as most of you insulted us but we are sure you will never stand it and finally you will be blaming yourself over the cruelty you have made.banda was asked by Nyerere if he claimed for the whole lake, will Malawi be ready to pay for every drop of water from nyasa that will fall on Tanzanian land?.let the brave stand.i pray there be no more talk with the Malawians it is now the time for the AK47 to speak on behalf

We can put rebels in Zambia, we can put rebels in Mozambique. We can destabilize your peace just in days. We have enough spies to send over and sabotage your government by making you fight against each other. We can use propaganda to spread the message of hatred within malawians. We have trained rebels before and we are very good at that. Museveni is one of our products .We will create one dictator that will make your life a nightmare. Wars are fought on the battle front not through your lousy claims. You morons are so naive about realities of war. While you are busy ranting here, Surestream Oil Company is still busy working on our entire lake. We cannot be threatened by your empty threats. Deal with it fools! Even Your colonial power did the same to the boundary between your Country And Tanzania. I am afraid that most of "us", be it Malawians or Tanzanians, who are "praying" for war, have never even been closer to a war zone! Guys, a war is something very different from "riot police operations". I did a research in a refugee camp (Congolese refugees in western Tanzania), a war is not something to hope for. Of course if it happens, you have no choice but to back your soldiers… never the less, that is not like a video game… I was also lucky to have a feel of being near to a place where live arms exercises were being conducted (Kigoma – Tanzania)… That tremour was itself scary, eventhough I knew that it was just a peaceful military exercise…!! Yes, we have sent peope to missions in Comoros, Congo, Lebanon, Liberia, Darfur and many other places… never the less, as an African, I want to preserve Nyerere's thinking that our Military should be only for defence… I do not want to see my fellow Afrians suffer for something which can be sorted out simply through reasoning.

Malawians the name alone makes me sick to my stomach! You work as domestic servants in South Africa, lady's job! Can you imagine? Thus I wasn't surprised when I heard Malawi recognise gay rights.
On a serious note though, waters of Lake Nyasa touch our land. We therefore have riparian rights. In other words we're equally entitled to the claim of ownership of the lake
Malawians are so pathetic! David Livingstone called that lake Nyasa in 1859 but you decided to change it because you want it all to yourselves!

So who do you want to fool that there is no tribalism in Tanzania? Not me of course for I have so much evidence about tribalism in TZ. You are just sitting on a time-bomb that will explode one day because it has been suppressed for so long. Be honest with me, are other tribes in TZ comfortable with the Chaggas? Are you aware that the Chaggas wanted to form their own republic in Northern Tanzania? They even had their own influential king who posed threat to Nyerere. Why did Nyerere abolish all traditional chieftainships? To date all you have are mere ceremonial chieftainships. Are you aware that it is almost impossible to get a radio licence for other smaller languages in TZ? I am reliably aware that those tribes with their cousins across your borders rely on the latter to listen to radios in their languages.
All these facts point to the fact that your political system is so artificial. It deliberately suppresses other smaller tribes and you claim not to have tribalism. Wait until Civic United Front (CUF) or Chama Cha Maendeleo (Chadema) come to power. For CUF, I know their first move will be to delink Zanzibar from your fake Nyerere-Karume union. Currently, you are a de facto one party state. You have not yet tasted real democracy and its challenges. No matter how long it will take, you will remember these words I have just spoken.

Spawk get your story straight.I come from northern Tanzania. I know much history of this country than you do. After spending almost two decades studying it.
When did the chagga wanted to form their own republic ? What is your source ? Talking about chagga king. Which one exactly are you refering to ? Do you know how many kings(chiefs) the chagga tribe had ? Nyerere did abolish chieftainships (as if he did that single handedly) so that the country can unite unlike what colonial masters did. Look at us now.
We don`t even have ceremonial chieftainships, we merely have just names of those chiefs.
And then you have the balls to talk about tribal radios ? Which rat hole are you living in ? I want to come and smoke you out !! Did you know what that did to Rwanda during the genocides ? Are you that serious ? Now it shows how tribal runatic you are.
In Tz we have many tribes, in different size and different social economical status. We have more than 120+ of them. And so far we have been intact. Feeling like giving us credit for that ?
And your last paragraph does not make any sense. You are running around all over. Are you talking about tribalism in Tanzania or politics of Tanzania ? You are mixing up. While you are swearing in to us that when CUF or CHADEMA takes the reign it will be the end of us. At the same time you say we are de facto one party state. Are you insane ? Get your thought correctly before you make an ass of yourself, okay ?
You must be praying hard to see us killing each other right ? Wrong, the steps we took from the begining are the ones that have kept us together. And you better respect that squirell. And that won`t end any time soon.Keep waiting.
Now, let me pull you back to the main issue here. Concerning lake Malawi or Nyasa in this case. Can you correct me if Iam wrong. I saw a picture of your foreign minister with ours. May be the editor got it wrong and said it was of August 2012. Is that correct ? What is he doing in Tanzania if the next dialogue is going to be August 20th ? Arranged to be in your country . What is all that about ?
This shows how stupid you are. While you are here lying and talk all that nonsense, your leaders understand what is at stake here. And they are trying to do the right thing. Your members of parliament were at the chamber when our foreign minister was blasting your country. What a shame.
Now you keep doing that. When you are tired, find your boyfriend and screw each other. Then come back here to talk unintelligible again, useless piece of shit.
Well-loved. Like 6

The way I see it is time for Tanzania to exercise their military power again in Africa, as they did in Mozambique, Comoro, Uganda, and Sycheles. Those heavy military equipment must be put in use now so we can see how good they are by getting not only half of the lake but all of it! Remember what was done to Idd Amin DADA? Ask Comoro! NAKUPENDA NAKUPENDA TANZANIA! 3 days is very much enough to take the whole country!

But-let be bold when arguing about this-who shall suffer the most: children, women and the economies. will this health the fact that the lake belong to who or should be shared. would you like to come to the round table when we have already killed innocent and destroyed our economics.

Tanzania claims sound very much like the biblical story of two prositutes during King Solomon's time. For the sake of nescient Tanzania who has more quack traders than authentic scholars, I will tell the story of King Solomon's wisdom. Here goes the story; there were two prostitutes who all fell pregnant and eventually littered on the very same time. While in a deep slumber, one of the prostitutes slept over her newborn to death. When she woke up and realised the mess she had made, she stealthly walked to the bed of the other prostitute and stole the live baby. When this other prositute woke up she noted that her live baby had been stollen by her colleague prostitute. The quarrel ensued over the ownership of the live baby. The issue was ultimately brought to the attention of king Solomon to pass verdict. King Solomon told them," I will slice the live baby so that all of you have nothing" The prostitute real mother of the live baby said," King!for the sake of the baby's life give it to her meaning the other prostitute" This gesture made King Solomon discern that she was the real mother as the other prostitute had accepted the idea of killing the live baby for all-loser scenario. King Solomon took the baby and gave it to its real mother. The story here clearly synonyms to the baseless claims Tanzania is making to have lake Malawi shared 50/50. The 50/50 sharing also reveals an element of knowledge deficit on the part of Tanzania. It just shows that they dont know the geographical morphology of lake Malawi. Remember, that we do not have problems for the coastal dwellers to bath, fish, drink from the waters of L. Malawi. That has been the case all along. What is not negotiable is lunatic mentality of sharing the lake 50/50. My fellow Malawians know that Tanzania is a Goliath by territory but tactless militarily.

Hey you Malawian! to me the Malawians' claims seems to be ambiguous, We have been living i a very peaceful way and I did not expect a quarrel with you. To me i see there is no need of fighting, and I would like to ask your government to respect the boundaries that were existing since then, that would be a very peaceful solution rather than entering into war. I know we Tanzanians are not people to fond of quarrels like what the editor is trying to make the Malawians believe.

Mr Spawk,
U really conflict urself, i for one is a Chagga and i congratulate Mwl for uniting us and further envying him for abolishing local chieftainship and to put things right Chagga only wanted their Republic prior to Independence and not during the independence struggle since we came together under TANU or after Independence! What u r vomiting here is a mere myth that there is tribalism in Tanzania, truth to be told we r one of the most cosmopolitan but united society and as a matter of fact vernacular radios r prohibited and will continue to be prohibited since it is out of these radios that most of conflicts in Great Lake Region arise; experience shows during elections they tend to be tribal inclined and become suppressible to minority tribal groups! I still believe a country like Tanzania does not need such radios! We have a language i.e. Swahili that everyone can speak 99% and there is no need of tribal languages except from international languages! In Tanzania tribal languages end at ur doorstep! To prove u that we r solidly united ignore ultimatum and rest be assured u won't regret since our Army contingent is already at the border waiting for matching orders from Commander in Chief who himself was a colonel!

While I agree that we should respect colonial boundaries, I also think wisdom and cool minds should prevail so that we do not become unreasonable prisoners or captives of the colonialists. This about it. People around the lake have fished and depended on the lake for centuries before the coming of colonialists. After the colonialists set up strange and unreasonable boundaries, we sit down and say: "aha, it is our water. (because our master said so). you cannot fish and swim in it or you pay tax." It is high time we broke the shackles of colonial legacy, sat down and used our wisdom to set things right.

We always Pray for Afrika and Tanzania, for her people (men, women and kids)in our beloved Tanzanian National Anthem:
"Mungu Ibariki Afrika, Mungu Tanzania'
Dumisha Uhuru na Umoja, Wake kwa waume na watoto, Mungu Ibariki……"
but mind you we don't pray for all who curse the mother land Afrika as you Malawian do, you have spoiled the land by accepting homosex…
Is you're turn to pay to pay this now, is better you seek advice from your former Prez Mulizi for resolving this.
Tanzanians are always living to make peace and bring hope to whoever don't have..we do this by peace or force just to let our prayer answered…
You Malawian, you better give peace to Africa and her people

Mosha you need to read your history again, Mr Spawk is right the Chagga did want to their own republic a claim which was even represented to the Queen as head of the commonwealth, they had their own administrative government, many Mengis with Chief Marealle being the overall chief of the Chaggas, it is true after independence this cooled down and precisely because of this tha Nyerere abolished chiefdoms, considering that he himself came from an insignificant chieftain he feared the more powerful chiefdoms will overpower his reign so he abolished chiefdoms, which I think was a good and a wise thing to do for the unity of our country. If Mr Mosha read and understand what is going on in Tanzania we have seen the emergence of some political parties who still have the desire of having a chagga republic, this has been said in public and demonstrated in action.

Gabriel, be careful what era you are refering to. When the chagga demanded their republic, was it during colonial era or post colinial ? And do you know the reasons what the political atmosphere at that time. Colinialists had to do every means possible to separate us so as to rule us easily. The chagga had demanded their freedom because it was by then just themselves. They had no other strong unifying factors to demand their republic with any other function. Now, you want to talk about tribalism during colinialism or post that ?
Have you heard anything like that after independence ? Gabriel you shouuld be buying into that ccm story that we have tribal parties. The ppl of this nation everyday reveal the truth, as they wake up and join those parties regardless their tribal differences. Bear in mind that in a nation with 120+ tribes, there will be some challenges. Thank God those have not grown to became issues that can disintergrate us as we have seen in various nations around. us.

Common people on both sides should be careful on politicians coming out with such "war" "war" "war" statements on their mouth!
War isn't something to wish/desire for. Wars in Afrika have the tendency of never ending. Guys look at Somalia…is that what you and I want..?
Malawians of the border and Tanzanians of the border (and hereby even Zambians of the border) are already a one people, for we have mixed through intermarriages and languages on both sides..!
I am a Tanzanian from the border, with blood relatives on the other side…by the way even the very current chief of staff of Tanzanian army comes from Kyela border, thus possibly (likely) with relatives in Malawi!
Dare on both sides we forget that we are to those wazungu who are to come explore and invest; we are before them just other blacks and Afrikans. To them we are just the same..!
We all on both sides have "wars" already to fight every day, battling against abject poverty, underdevelopment, ignorance, superstitions, diseases, corruptions (of our very leaders who comes out with such nasty statements) and etc name what and what more..!
These "wars" are already overwhelming…we don't need the military one..!
If we want to fight for funny, then let's just arrange a soccer match (Taifa stars Vs The flames) and pent up out our vexing on that..!
People don't be fooled by Poly-trick-tians seeking popularity to fulfil their own personal ambitions.
They are not the ones who will feel the pain, nether their families, mind you..!
Remember finally that it were Europeans, through the Berlin conference 1884-1885 which set up Afrikan borders as they are today, without considering the boundaries of the society that they found here around.
Guys we be wise…

MOST OF THE CIVILIANS ARE JUST SPEAKING WITHOUT BEING BASED ON EVIDENCE.
LAKE NYASA SINCE 1889 WAS SHARED BY THREE COUNTRIES. BRITISH, MOZAMBIQUE AND GERMAN. AFTER THE HELIGOLAND TREATY GERMAN WERE ASKED TO LEAVE THE WESTERN PART OF THE LAKE TO BELONG TO BRITISH OF THE NYASA LAND. SO OUR BROTHERS FROM TANGANYIKA-GERMAN EAST AFRICA HAD POSSESION OF THE EASTERN PART OF THE LAKE. THATS THE BASIS OF THE STAND OF OUR BROTHERS FROM TANZANIA.
It was from the same treaty, that lake Tanganyika was also shared to the ZAIRE in which TANZANIANS share half of it.
ITS GOOD FOR EVERY MALAWIAN TO REMEMBER THAT WE WERE COLONISED BY BRITISH, BUT AFTER THE WORLD WAR, TANZANIA WAS ALSO TAKEN BY THE BRITISH. Now from that point, Can you trace the new border in the lake? IT WAS ALL FOR THE BRITISH. FOR SURE LETS TALK TO OUR BROTHERS TANZANIANS BSE WE WILL NOT MAKE IT IN THE COURT, ITS GOOD FOR EDITORS TO WRITE NEWS WITHOUT FAVOR.

It beats me how you Tanzanians want to think you are superior because you fought a war with Uganda decades ago. Your country is just as poor as Malawi and what is worse is that your country has potential but it seems your leaders are inept. The workers you have working in Dar el salam, we don't want them, we don't keep uneducated people here. They decided to join the most unintelligent nation which is Tanzania. The world map anywhere labels the lake as Lake Malawi, you call it lake Nyasa which is our old name for our lake. Militarily you are weak and all this talk about being powerful is lies. Your people come here in Malawi to sell on our streets and u claim you are mighty? Stupid Tanzanians and your stupid prophet Muhammad. If your God can be eaten by pigs then think to what we can do to u.

Tanzania is one of the world's poorest economies in terms of per capita income, however, Tanzania averaged 7% GDP growth per year between 2000 and 2008 on strong gold production and tourism. The economy depends heavily on agriculture, which accounts for more than one-quarter of GDP, provides 85% of exports, and employs about 80% of the work force. The World Bank, the IMF, and bilateral donors have provided funds to rehabilitate Tanzania's aging economic infrastructure, including rail and port infrastructure that are important trade links for inland countries. Recent banking reforms have helped increase private-sector growth and investment, and the government has increased spending on agriculture to 7% of its budget. Continued donor assistance and solid macroeconomic policies supported a positive growth rate, despite the world recession. In 2008, Tanzania received the world's largest Millennium Challenge Compact grant, worth $698 million. Dar es Salaam used fiscal stimulus and loosened monetary policy to ease the impact of the global recession. GDP growth in 2009-11 was a respectable 6% per year due to high gold prices and increased production.

If you are a Muslim in Tanzania, eat a pig bastards. if you want a war with us we will just throw you sacks of pigs and Muhammad will run away and leave you alone on the battlefield. Stinking people living in Dar el salam.
