Fifteen years ago, the World Bank predicted Tanzania would need a century to achieve 100% rural electrification. In 2026, Tanzania, through REA, achieved universal village grid electrification. Every official mainland village now has core electricity infrastructure. Extending electricity to decentralized hamlets and household meters remains the goal.

• Mainland villages electrified: 12,318 of 12,318 (100%)

• Total rural connections: Over 1,082,669 direct consumers

• Overall rural access rate: Over 80%
