KASULU South MP (NCCR-Mageuzi) David Kafulila, intends to table a private motion in the National Assembly in February asking the august House to cast a vote of no confidence to the Minister for Energy and Minerals, Mr William Ngeleja, allegedly for failure to rescue the country from frequent power blues.
Addressing journalists in Dar es Salaam on Sunday, Mr Kafulila also accused Mr Ngeleja of failure to implement the National Energy Policy and the National Power System Master Plan causing the country to suffer three serious power rationing in the last two years which has caused a lot of economic damages.
Mr Kafulila who was elected into the House for the first time in the last October general election, said he would also hold the government responsible for negligence that would lead into paying about 185bn/- to Ms Dowans Co. being damages after winning the case against Tanzania Electric Supply Company (Tanesco) in the International Commercial Court (ICC).
Since 2006 the government has failed to solve power blues despite regular promises to deal with the problem and Minister Ngelejas statements that power problems would remain history have not been practical and it now looks like a problem that is beyond our leader's capacity to solve, he said.
On the Dowans and Tanesco controversy, he said it was surprising the government was about to pay billions of shillings in damages to the company it once described as non existent and fake.
Instead, he said, the government should have worked on stakeholders recommendation of buying the turbines valued at 70bn/- by then.
But now it has to pay the company the money which would have been otherwise used to finance generation of at least 200MW for the national grid, he said.
He further said that he would, in his private motion, ask the government to allocate enough funds for implementation of 2000MW Stiglers Gorge project, 300MW Mnazi Bay project and 200MW Kiwira project whose execution had been delayed.
