Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa, who is accused of shooting and killing Brian Olunga has denied the charges in court.

Barasa, who took plea at the Bungoma Law Courts on Monday denied the charges, and his lawyer Nathan Tororei asked he be released on bail.

However, the prosecution led by lawyer Grace Mukangu asked the court to grant Barasa a costly bail due to the nature of the crime he is accused of committing.

The prosecution also asked the court to instruct Barasa not to visit Kimilili Constituency, especially the scene of the incident, as he may influence the witnesses in the case.

Judge Paul John Otieno is set to issue a ruling on whether the legislator, who has been in police custody for 14 days will be set free on bail.

On August 9, Barasa is said to have shot 21-year-old Brian Olunga in the head at Chebukwabi polling station in Bungoma County.

Olunga was an aide to Barasa’s opponent in the Kimilili Parliamentary race, Brian Khaemba
