Mr Pulchra Animo,
The point about the necessity of debunking to shift public opinion is practically true in the short term, but it entirely misses the structural trap of that strategy. A sustainable political movement cannot be built on an infinite loop of debunking. If the benchmark for survival is that every single fabrication must be formally disproven to maintain credibility, complete control of the political agenda is effectively handed over to the adversary.
Consider the sheer asymmetry of this warfare. An adversary can manufacture a crisis in five minutes with a single anonymous post or a well-placed rumor. For an opposition group to debunk it, the process requires hours or days of gathering evidence, issuing statements, and shifting media focus. If ten lies a week are thrown at a movement, how many times can leadership successfully debunk them before running out of breath? If nine are successfully disproven, the one left unaddressed automatically becomes "the truth" in the public eye. That is a statistical game designed for a movement to lose.
Furthermore, any political organization that spends all its time playing defense and shouting "this is not true" eventually looks guilty and chaotic to the public, regardless of the facts. The constant noise of allegations alone creates a perception of weakness. If the default strategy is simply to wait for the next lie just to chase it down, a movement will eventually bleed to death from a thousand small cuts.
An analyst's job isn't just to react to the smoke; it is to point out who is holding the smoke machine. Instead of forcing leaders to constantly prove a negative, analysts must train the public to question the source, the pattern, and the timing of these allegations. If the public's default setting does not change from "believe until debunked" to "verify before consuming," the adversary will continue to dictate 100% of the movement's energy and schedule.
Ultimately, if the core belief here is that the accused carries the burden of proving innocence, then this conversation is operating on two entirely different wavelengths. There is little ground to build on when the foundational rules of logic are reversed. Let us simply agree to disagree here, respect the difference in perspectives, and allow time to demonstrate which approach truly serves the movement.
