Lauryn Hill has been out of the public eye while raising her six children


Singer Lauryn Hill has been sentenced in the US state of New Jersey to three months in jail for tax evasion.
The Grammy-winning singer, 37, also faces three months of home confinement, after pleading guilty last year.
Hill failed to pay taxes on about $1.8m (£1.2m) of earnings between 2005-07.

In a statement to the judge, Hill said she intended to pay the taxes but could not after ending her music career. She will report to prison on 8 July, according to entertainment website TMZ.

Hill has six children, five of whom she had with Rohan Marley, the son of Bob Marley. She has largely withdrawn from public life while raising her children.

In a statement to the court, Hill compared her situation to slavery, TMZ reported.

"I was put into a system I didn't know the nature of... I'm a child of former slaves. I got into an economic paradigm and had that imposed on me," Hill said.
"I sold 50 million units," she added. "Now I'm up here paying a tax debt. If that's not likened to slavery, I don't know what is."

Hill started her career with Grammy-award winning hip-hop group Fugees alongside Wyclef Jean and Pras Michel.
She released her acclaimed solo debut album, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, in 1998, which won five Grammy awards and sold more than 19 million copies worldwide.
