Ten-time national champions Kakamega High School will have a chance of returning to reclaiming the secondarys football title when the 2014 Airtel Rising Stars Term 2B national finals begin Tuesday in Kakamega County.
The Green Commandos have been missing in action for the past six years but reached the final this year with a convincing 3-0 win over neighbours Chavakali High School in the Nzoia regional finals last month.
Buoyed by home advantage, the former champions will have to overcome stiff opposition from the likes of Brother Beusang.
The newcomers from Kajiado dethroned East Africas defending champions Upper Hill School in the Nairobi Metropolitan regional finals in Oloitoktok last month.
MAKE COMEBACK
Head coach Brenden Mwinamo Monday told Daily Nation Sport that his team is determined to make a comeback after spending many years out in the cold
Mwinamo is confident the team will go on to represent the country in the East African school games in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania next month.
We only lost one game on the way to the nationals. The team is ready to give its best and reclaim the title. We have prepared very well for the competitions and I believe that the hard work we have put in will eventually pay off, Mwinamo said.
Kathungi High from Northern region and last years Nakuru regional finalists Chemase will also fight for a qualifying spot in this Pool A.
Greenpalm (Coast), Garissa Day (Garissa), Kisumu Day (Lake) and Passenga (Aberdare will square it out in Pool B.
Hospital Hill High School are the only Nairobi County representatives after Olympic Girls and Upper Hill High School both failed to make it to this years finals.
Olympic Girls were beaten 4-2 on post-match penalties by Matuu High School in the Metropolitan regional finals to surrender their national title while Upper Hill were eliminated 2-0 by Brother Beusang.
Matuu Girls will be making a comeback in the girls football after a five year absence and will be up against Nzoias Tartar, Nakurus Kapcherop and Ntunene from Northern region in Pool A.
Pool B will see Kaloleni Girls, (Coast), Gekomoni (Lake), Passenga (Aberdare) and Butere Gils (Nzoia) fight for a ticket to Dar es Salaam, Tanzania later this month.
