The Federation of Uganda Football Association FUFA has announced that Crested Cranes head coach Sheryl Ulanda Botes and the federation have mutually agreed to end her contract with immediate effect, bringing her three-year tenure to an end.
The South African coach was appointed in November 2023 on a three-year contract. A former Banyana Banyana player, Botes holds CAF A and SAFA Pro licences and previously coached South Africa’s U-20 women’s team and the SAFA Girls Soccer Academy.
During her time in Uganda, Botes also worked with the U-17 Teen Cranes and U-20 Queen Cranes. Her biggest success came with the Teen Cranes, who won the 2026 CECAFA U-17 Women’s Championship after winning all five matches, scoring 26 goals and conceding none. Uganda defeated hosts Tanzania 3-0 in the final to retain the title.
She also guided Uganda’s youth teams through FIFA World Cup qualifiers while supporting talent development at school and club level.
Her time with the senior Crested Cranes produced mixed results, with the team taking part in friendlies and regional competitions without a major continental breakthrough.
FUFA thanked Botes for her contribution to women’s football in Uganda and wished her well in her future endeavours.
