A petitioner has moved to court contesting how one lady, Jennifer Gitiri, got hold of over 8 executive jobs at a go.

Jennifer Wangui Gitiri, who also holds a Head of State Commendation (HSC), has been at the center of a growing contest especially after her recent appointment as the CEO of the Council for Legal Education.

But her resume is equally decorated with qualifications in multiple professions.

In terms of academic qualifications, Jennifer Gitiri holds a Master of Laws (LLM) in Comparative Constitutional Law from the Central European University and a second LLM in Public International Law from the University of Nairobi.

Further, she did an Advanced Masters course in International Human Rights Law from the University of Oslo, a Post Graduate Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law and a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from the University of Nairobi.

She is currently an advocate of the High Court with over 10 years of experience- a qualification that saw her land a job as the Deputy Director of Legal Services.

Further, Jennifer Gitiri is a Certified Public Secretary (CPS-K) and a trained Financial Action Task Force (FATF) assessor by the Eastern and Southern Africa Anti-Money Laundering Group (ESAAMLG).

Jennifer Gitiri, legal expert

So far, the high-flying career woman boasts of experience as a legal expert in constitutional law, international law, anti-money laundering, anti-corruption and assets recovery.

In January 2023, she was appointed to the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) Board of Directors as the alternate to the Attorney General of the Republic of Kenya.

She also previously served as a Principal State Counsel in the Office of the Attorney General and Department of Justice.

In addition, Jennifer Gitiri has participated in both the National Risk Assessment and the Mutual Evaluation for Kenya which evaluates compliance with the Financial Action Taskforce (FATF) Recommendations.

She, interestingly, grew up in the slums- an experience she once cited as a source of her motivation in pursuing her studies.

However, the bone of contention in the court case is her alleged holding of multiple positions and earning salary from the government.

In the petition filed by a Nakuru-based surgeon, Jennifer Gitiri is further accused of not meeting the minimum qualification requirement of having as a lawyer for 15 years to be appointed as the CEO of the CLE.
