Police have said they have not yet received a formal complaint over an online investment platform operating under the name Hut 8, despite reports that members of the public may have lost money through the scheme.
Several members of the public have in the past one month or so have reported to have been fleeced by Hut 8.
Police spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke stated that whereas the complaints have been made on social media platforms, none of the victims has officially reported the matter to police.
However, Rusoke said the legitimate Hut 8 Corporation has since disassociated himself from having operations in Uganda.
We have not yet received any formal complaint but wish to clarify that the legitimate Hut 8 Corporation ent on its X handle and disassociated with alleged solicitations in Uganda. It stated that it has no authorised representatives or investment operations soliciting funds in Uganda,” Rusoke said.
He urged victims to report cases to enable investigations commence.
“Police, working with other regulatory and financial-sector agencies, are ready to receive complaints and available information to establish the full circumstances, identify the individuals or entities involved, and take appropriate action in accordance with the law.”
