Police have arrested Faisal Kimuli, a prime suspect in an alleged online fraud scheme targeting foreign tourists through a purported car-hire and tour company, FK Car Rental.

The case came to light on August 16, 2026, after a Russian tourist reported to the Uganda Tourism Board that he had paid USD 2,215 to FK Car Rental to hire a vehicle, but the vehicle was never delivered.

Police said that shortly after receiving the payment, the company's website was taken down and all contact numbers linked to the business were switched off.

Further complaints from other foreign tourists reportedly revealed a similar pattern. The same operator is alleged to have used several online platforms advertising gorilla permits, safaris, 4×4 vehicle hire and other tourism services.

Police are continuing investigations to establish the full extent of the alleged fraud and identify other victims.
