Jeremiah 10:1-5 in the Bible says the following (King James Version):

[1] Hear ye the word which the Lord speaketh unto you, O house of Israel:

This is interpreted by some fundamentalist Christians as referring to a Christmas tree, and that therefore the Bible would explicitly forbid the practice. However, the more common interpretation is that the passage refers to idol worship, and it is the practice of making an object out of wood, silver, and gold, and then worshiping that idol. Others feel that since "Christmas Trees" are not biblically ordained, they should not be used. Such individuals and Christian denominations are unlikely to celebrate Christmas at all, for the same reason, such as the United Church of God.
Isaiah 55: 13, refers to the evergreen tree as a joyful sign to the Lord in celebration of life everlasting, that shall not be cut off.

Martin Collins from Bibletools.com believes that the origin of the Christmas tree is tied to the ancient myth of Gilgamesh and Horus,[45] which they associate with character Nimrod in the Bible. Interestingly, that association places the origins of the Christmas tree in to a celebration Nimrod as the "Son of Heaven." By associating this symbol with Jesus, many Christians are replacing that pagan symbology with a Christian one by celebrating the Birth of Jesus on December 25 instead of the Birthday of Nimrod.

Some churches however use Christmas trees as decoration at Christmas time. Others use the same stripped Christmas tree as a Christian cross at Easter. See the poem The Dream of the Rood. Both Ezekiel 47:12 and the Book of Revelation 22:2 use trees as a symbol of new fruitful life, compared to the Tree of life denied Adam in Genesis 3:22-23. Paul makes the link between Adam and Christ clear in Romans chapter 5:

Adam is a type of the one who was to come. (v. 14)

In the same way the Christmas tree can be seen as mirroring the tree of life, a symbol or type of the Crucifix which brings redemption.

There are several mistakes made when telling the story of the birth of Jesus that many believe to be true.

1. First, there were shepherds at the manger (Luke 2:8-10), but not the wise men. We also have no idea as to how many wise men there are. It could be 2 or 20! The Bible says that the wise men brought three gifts, gold frankincense and myrrh. It is more likely that since these were common currency items of value that each wise man, regardless of the actual number, brought a little of all three. We are not saying that there wasn't three, just that to say so is going beyond what is written.

2. Another glaring error in all the nativity scenes is that the wise men were certainly not at the manger of the inn the night Jesus was born. It says that the wise men came to Jesus' house! It seems clear that the wise men came just prior to the time Herod issued his decree to slaughter all the children under two years. The star first appeared to the wise men when Jesus was born, but it led the wise men to Jesus' house. (Matthew 2:11 "And they came into the house and saw the Child with Mary His mother")

3. The Bible doesn't say the star shone over the manger. This was a sign only the wise men could discern. The average person would miss it. The star appeared for the purpose of leading the wise men to Jesus home. The wise men started their journey when the star first appeared (at birth). Being from the "east" most likely Persian or Mesopotamia (Modern Iraq) , they completed a journey of at least 500 miles. We can get a general idea as to how old Jesus was when the wise men visited by approximating the time it would take to make such a trip at that time in history. To travel 500 miles, would take 25 days is about the earliest they could have arrived under perfect conditions.

The exact date of Jesus' birth is a mystery. About the best we can do is to narrow it down to seasons. The Bible does give us one clue. The shepherds were in the fields with their flocks at night when Jesus was born.

This clearly indicates that Jesus was born during the warmer seasons. During the coldest months like December or January, the shepherds didn't sleep in the fields but would bring their flocks into corals. There is virtual agreement among scholars that December 25 is not the birth date, not even the month that Jesus was born.

However some suggest that the whole idea that the flocks where brought into corals during the coldest months, implying the shepherds were not out in the fields, is rejected by some who say the flocks stayed in the fields year round.

4. Jephthah and Ammon had a war against each other. Jephthah swore to the Lord in Mizpah of Gilead to sacrifice his only daughter if he won. He did win, and burnt his daughter there alive as an offering to the Lord (Judges 11:29-39).
5. Four hundred thousand swordsmen from the eleven tribes of Israel swore before the Lord in Mizpeh to exterminate the tribes of Benjamin (Judges 20 and 21).
6. The children of Israel, under Samuel, swore in Mizpeh to destroy their idols if they won against the Philistines (I Samuel 7).
7. The whole nation of Israel assembled in Mizpeh when Samuel was appointed king of Israel (I Samuel 10).

Ni kweli, Yesu Kristo hakuzaliwa Tar. 25 Desemba. Kimsingi, wakristo wanasherehekea tukio lenyewe, la kuzaliwa Yesu Kristo, na sio Tarehe. Tarehe ya kuzaliwa Yesu haijulikani, kwa sababu watu wa enzi hizo hawakuwa na kawaida ya kurekodi tarehe kama sisi tufanyavyo siku hizi za leo. Ikumbukwe ya kuwa Yesu Kristo alizaliwa zamani sana sasa imepita miaka zaidi ya 2000.
Fikiri, wazee wetu, waliozaliwa mwishoni mwa miaka ya 1800, au mwanzoni mwa miaka ya 1900, wengi wao hawakuweza kutaja sio tarehe tu bali hata miaka yao ya kuzaliwa. Walau wliweza kusema: Nilizaliwa mwaka ule Mjerumani alipoingia Tanzania, au Mimi wakati wa Vita kuu ya kwanza nilikuwa kijana niliyekuwa na uwezo wa kulipa kodi n.k. sasa je miaka 2000 iliyopita nani angekumbuka tarehe? Kanisa limejiwekea tarehe hiyo ili kukumbuka tukio la Mungu kujifanya mwanadamu ili kuukomboa ulimwengu.

Kuhusu Bikira Maria: Si kweli kwamba alipata ujauzito Mwezi wa sita yaani Mwezi Juni, kama unavyosema. Mwezi wa sita, maana yake, tangu Elizabeti alipopata ujauzito. Yakupasa uanze kusoma kuanzia Lk 1:24 na sio tu kuanzia Lk 1:26 hapo utapata muunganiko sahihi. Kwa kuwa hatujui tarehe ya kuzaliwa Yesu, hatuwezi pia kujua lini Bikira Maria alipata ujauzito. Tunachojua ni kwamba Malaika Gabrieli alitumwa kwa Mariamu Mwezi wa sita toka Elizabeti alipopata ujauzito.
