Katika mwezi wa Ramadhani, Waislamu huwa wanakuwa na temporary celibacy ambapo wanatakiwa wa-abstain from sexual relations during the strictly daily that extend from daybreak to sun down.
Pia wale wanaoenda Mecca wanatakiwa wa-abstain from sexual relations wakati wakiwa kwenye state of ritual consecration kwa siku kadhaa. Temporary celibacy ni normal katika dini ya Kiislamu na imekuwa extended kwenye rituals nyingine.
Tofauti na dini za kikristo, dini ya Kiislamu haimini kwenye permanent celibacy. Quran (57:27) inasesema But the Monasticism which they invented for themselves, We did not prescribe for them but only to please God therewith, but that they did not observe it with the right observance.
Pia katika mafundisho Mtume Mohammad alizungumzia celibacy: There have been people who have come to the prophet and explained how they love to be engaged in prayer and fasting for the sake of God. The Prophet Mohammed told them that, despite this being good, it is also a blessing to raise a family, to remain moderate and not to concentrate too much on one aspect as not only can this be unhealthy for an individual as well as upon society, it may also take one away from God."
