...Confidence and anticipation are building around the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations as the Confederation of African Football (CAF) moves to silence growing speculation about the tournament’s readiness.
Speaking at a press conference, CAF President Patrice Motsepe firmly dismisses allegations that the hosting rights could be withdrawn from East Africa.
“The AFCON next year in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda is going to be successful. The allegations that I am here to say that I am taking away the AFCON because our three countries will not be ready are totally unfounded.”
His remarks come at a time when concerns have been circulating about infrastructure timelines, stadium upgrades, and overall preparedness in the three host nations — Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda.
CAF’s inspection committee is currently in Tanzania assessing the status of facilities and infrastructure. The delegation is expected to proceed to Kenya and later Uganda as part of a scheduled evaluation tour aimed at reviewing stadium renovations, training grounds, accommodation capacity, and transport logistics.
Motsepe’s strong statement appears designed to calm fears and reaffirm CAF’s commitment to the East African bid. His statement signals confidence in the progress made so far and underscores CAF’s belief that the tournament will not only proceed as planned but also be a success.
