Borussia Dortmund midfielder Gio Reyna has suffered a hamstring injury that will force him to miss the United States’ next two games.

The USMNT has confirmed that Gio Reyna has suffered a right hamstring strain and will miss their next two games against Canada and Honduras as a result. The Borussia Dortmund midfielder played 90 minutes in the United States’ goalless draw with El Salvador on Thursday. But it has now been revealed that he suffered an injury during that game, and now faces a spell on the sidelines.

It remains to be seen how long Reyna will be out for at the moment. Borussia Dortmund will likely provide an update on his injury in the coming days.

Gio Reyna’s injury is a big blow for Borussia Dortmund, who have big games coming up in both the Bundesliga and the Champions League this month.

Reyna has established himself as a regular starter in midfield under Marco Rose. The USMNT international has started all five of the Black and Yellows’ games so far this season, and has two goals and one assist to his name.

Erling Haaland continued his excellent start to the season on Saturday evening, as he scored to help Norway earn a vital 2-0 win against Latvia.

Erling Haaland and Norway went up against Latvia on Saturday, looking to boost their hopes of qualifying for next year’s FIFA World Cup. The Borussia Dortmund captain got his national team off to the perfect start, making it 1-0 from the penalty spot in the 20th minute. Haaland’s ninth goal in just his 13th appearance for Norway set the ton for them to dominate the game.

Southampton winger Mohamed Elyounoussi doubled Norway’s advantage in the second half. And they cruised to a comfortable win in the end. Erling Haaland was given a bit of a breather late on as he was subbed off in the 88th minute.

The win helped Norway stay in third place in their World Cup qualifying group. Turkey currently lead Group G with 11 points from five games, while the Netherlands are a point behind in second place. Louis van Gaal’s side lead Norway on goal difference at the half way stage in the group.

Borussia Dortmund have submitted their squad for the group stage of the 2021/22 UEFA Champions League. A total of 30 players have been nominated.

With the transfer market now closed, the start of the 2021/22 UEFA Champions League is almost upon us. Borussia Dortmund begin their Champions League campaign on September 15. And their official squad list for the group stage has now been finalised. The Black and Yellows have registered 30 players in their squad, with 25 players on List A and 5 players on List B.

UEFA rules state that players born on or after 1 January, 2000 who have been eligible to play for a club for at least two consecutive years can be registered on List B. Players aged 16 are also eligible to be added to this list if they have been with a club for the previous two years without interruption. Clubs can register an unlimited number of players on List B over the course of the group stage.

Borussia Dortmund have named five players on List B, including Gio Reyna, Youssoufa Moukoko, Göktan Gürpüz, Nnamdi Collins and Tobias Raschl.

List A can only have a maximum of 25 players, and at least eight of those players must be locally trained.

Borussia Dortmund begin their UEFA Champions League campaign with a trip to Turkey to take on Besiktas JK on September 15. Marco Rose’s side will also go up against AFC Ajax and Sporting CP in Group C.

Mats Hummels is on track to make his return to team training this week and he could be available for Saturday’s game against Bayer Leverkusen.

Mats Hummels is finally closing in on his return to action. According to Ruhr Nachrichten, the Borussia Dortmund defender should be back in team training on Tuesday. And the hope is that he will be ready in time for Saturday’s Bundesliga clash against Bayer Leverkusen.

Hummels has been struggling with a patellar tendon issue for a few months now. He made his return to the team as a substitute against SC Freiburg. But the pain in his knee returned soon after, and he missed the game against TSG Hoffenheim a week later as a result.

Borussia Dortmund will now be hoping that Hummels can stay injury free for an extended period, with a number of key games coming up in the next few weeks.

While Mats Hummels is set to make his return soon, there are question marks over Gio Reyna and Thomas Meunier. Reyna suffered a hamstring injury while playing for the United States national team against El Salvador. Meunier has a muscle injury and missed Belgium’s games against Estonia and the Czech Republic last week.

Both Reyna and Meunier will now return to Dortmund, and the club’s medical department will then assess their injuries and decide on whether they will be available for the game against Bayer Leverkusen this weekend.

Arsene Wenger believes that Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland is well on the way to becoming one of the world’s best goalscorers.

Erling Haaland has been scoring goals for fun since making the move to Borussia Dortmund from RB Salzburg in January 2020. The Norwegian international has found the back of the net 63 times in just 64 appearances across all competitions for the Black and Yellows. He was also voted as the 2020/21 UEFA Champions League Forward of the Season last week. And his performances have caught the eye of legendary Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger.

In an interview with BILD Live, Wenger spoke about Haaland and praised his ambition and will to score goals.

“Haaland is likely going to be the next high-profile goalscorer after Mbappe. I think he’s a super talent. His ambition, his will to score goals, his ability to fight in a duel – great. Haaland is probably the next high-profile goal scorer after Mbappe. He is there and he wants to win, there is something in him that is great for a striker.”
Wenger also had his say on where Haaland could move when he decides to leave Borussia Dortmund. Haaland’s future has been the subject of a lot of speculation in recent months, with a number of top clubs across Europe interested in signing him.

Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, Paris St. Germain, Chelsea, Manchester City, Manchester United and Liverpool are all said to be in the race to sign Haaland. And Wenger believes that the striker will make the move to the English Premier League before long, because of the league’s high economic power.

“I think that will happen. The economic power of the Premier League is too strong. English football is dominant because that is where the most money is. The best players always go down the best path, to the most money.”
