I don't care about money': Martinez wins the hearts of even more Arsenal fans



Emiliano Martinez has endeared himself to the Arsenal fanbase even more by saying he does 'not care about the money' in the wake of Saturday's FA Cup victory against Chelsea.



The 27-year-old has been on loan to six different clubs during his 10 years at the club but with Bernd Leno's injury on June 20, the Argentine has deputised in goal and has proved more than an adequate replacement.

He was visibly emotional after the match and now footage has emerged of Martinez saying in the tunnel: 'I don't care about the money.'

It is believed this was in response to the pay-cut of Arsenal players dropping from 12.5 per cent to 7.5 per cent as a result of qualifying for the Europa League.

The first-team squad took a pay-cut as a result of the coronavirus pandemic which paused football for three months.

But for Martinez, simply winning the FA Cup clearly meant the world to him, and speaking to the BBC after the game, the Argentine spoke passionately about his decision to join Arsenal at 17-years-old.

'At that time I was living in Buenos Aires and playing for Independiente and I would only see my family twice a month because they couldn’t afford the petrol to drive from their home in Mar Del Plata,' Martinez said.

'So when Arsenal offered to buy me, I had to be brave. I was 17-years-old and I said "yes" for my parents.





'We came from a poor, poor family and for them to see me winning a trophy and getting a medal would be something special.'

During his time in England, Martinz has been loaned out to Oxford, Sheffield Wednesday, Rotherham, Wolves, Getafe and Reading.

At the Emirates, he has been behind Leno, Petr Cech, David Ospina, Wojciech Szczesny, Lukasz Fabianski, Vito Mannone and Manuel Almunia but now seems to have taken his chance
