ANSAmed) - DOHA, MAY 11 - Pan-Arab satellite television channel al Jazeera has plans to
start up a channel in Turkish soon, one of the main languages of Islam, and one in Swahili, the language that is spoken in east, central and southern Africa where tens of millions of Muslims live.
Local observers say that
the initiative is part of the network's strategy of conquering new markets of Muslim viewers, inaccessible for the large Western networks like BBC and CNN.
The Turkish channel would reportedly reach and audience of more than 90 million Muslims in Turkey alone, as well as all other Turkish speaking populations living in central Asia, up to the Chinese border. (ANSAmed).
