Such filters were reviewed in the January 2015 issue of TELE-audiovision-1501 magazine.4G signals will be used by mobile networks to transmit higher quality phone and video calls but, more importantly, the newly designated frequencies will become a highway for the enormous amounts of mobile
data which are now being consumed on a daily basis. The space on the airwaves for 4G mobile broadband has come from the great analogue TV switch off, which ran on the 800 MHz band. DTT runs on a frequency band which is right next to and slightly overlaps with the 800 MHz band earmarked for 4G. Problems are likely to arise for people living in the vicinity of a future 4G mobile mast. Those in the immediate area, around 30,000 according to Ofcom estimates, will be in the 'Overload Zone' and are likely to have to resort to satellite TV services
What do they mean by advanced set top boxes?
Advanced set top boxes on the way - News - nation.co.ke
The countrys three leading media houses are set to launch 150,000 advanced set top boxes in the next three weeks. The enhanced set top boxes will be provided by Nation Media Group (NMG), Standard Group (SG) and Royal Media Services (RMS) in the first phase of a plan that will see them import a million more devices by the end of March, 2015.
Keyans shud b worried ie those not hooked to FTA.... My look is that the media houses will pull out their transmissions on the other platforms once they rollout their infrastructure... Scrabble their frequencies so we have to pay for to view them ie taarifa ya habari lol.....that's y the government was trying to prevent when the media houses tried to apply for their own digital licences....let's watch this space n wait
FTA rules 🙂
Sounds like hype to me(Of course reported in one of their newspapers!). Everyone in this forum knows how advanced an stb can get presently(HD, PVR,.... etc); and these are already in the market. Seems like my earlier fears are about to be confirmed- a segmented market with every shade of local broadcaster launching its stb, purportedly free at the start, and later introducing a card for which a nominal monthly fee is levied. The prevailing notion being that the digital migration heralds a windfall for every broadcaster, little wonder then that everybody is angling for a piece of the pie. What do they mean by advanced set top boxes?

Assume that be the case, isn't this against the regulations? What's the regulator saying/doing about this? Again aren't running the risk of their plan becoming counterproductive by consumers declining to pay or even buy their stbs? I have a feeling this action will harm than benefit the mwananchi. Personally I know if they discontinue broadcast on the existing platforms then it will be kwaheri to them. I won't miss a lot if the current content is anything to go by.Sounds like hype to me(Of course reported in one of their newspapers!). the
set-top box the three will sell comes internet enabled,
not sure whether this means ethernet port or Wifi card
on-board. The article also does not reveal what comes
on board the low priced set-top box so at this point we
do not know what compromises it comes with or
whether they will choose to subsidize the product to
arrive at the Kshs 2000 price.
