I am not getting either of those two channels on my DTT-STB (not theirs). I guess the channels are exclusive to their STB?

Hi Kungu I desperately need some help . I have a 3.6m mesh motorized dish here in Nakuru. I have been trying to get maximum channels but I have failed miserably. I have three lnb two c band and one samsung long neck slim lnb. Which channels can I possibly get from east to west? Where do I place the ku lnb to get the best signal? Please Kungu help me out I would also appreciate some pictures

most likely if you dont receive the two.the bamba dtt signal is far from my location.

There are two channels on Apstar - Sony and AXN which have no audio. Any ideas on how to get the audio?

More on Mr. Dongra’s 2.4m Offset Dish Fabrication

All,
This is additional information to the post by Dongra (https://www.jamiiforums.com/tech-ga...lite-world-and-sat-gear-542.html#post11570281) on 5[SUP]th[/SUP] January 2015. Mr. Dongra had promised to share the measurements we used. Here they are.

The Dish from Mr. Subbi came without any of its metal parts (LNB arms, neck support structure, stand, etc). Hence we had an uphill task figuring out how to fabricate these. To start with, we used the following simple formula for calculating the Focal length (i.e., length of LNB arm) as:

Focal length = (Width x Width x Width) / (16 x Depth x Height)

In the case of the off-set dish we had: Height = 270 Cm; Width = 250 Cm; Depth = 22 Cm

Therefore, Focal length = (250 x 250 x 250) / (16 x 22 x 270) = 164.4 Cm
Hence the Focal length given by Mr. Subbi of 165Cm, was fairly accurate. We also decided to go by his LNB side support arm length of 197Cm.

CALCULATING THE OFFSET ANGLE:

According to the measurements on the dish:
AB = 270 Cm = distance across dish from top to bottom (HEIGHT)
BF = 165 Cm = distance of bottom of dish to focal point [i.e., size of LNB arm]
AF = ……. = distance of top of dish to focal point
P = 22 Cm= maximum perpendicular distance from the chord to the dish (or DEPTH).

The offset angle ‘theta’ can be calculated using the following formula:
Angle theta = (1/2) x asin(8P/AB) = 0.5 x asin[(8 x 22) / 270] = 20.68 Degrees

This angle of approximately 21 Degrees is comparable to that of the Eurostar 130Cm which is usually between 21 and 22 degrees.

Now that we had found the Offset angle (20.68 Degrees) above;

Offset Angle = asin [(AF - BF) / AB]

Now to calculate the distance AF = distance of top of dish to focal point ......................

From the formula: Angle theta = (1/2)*asin(8P/AB) = 20.68 Degrees,

Also:
20.68 Degrees = asin [(AF - BF) / AB] = asin [(AF – 165)/270

Sin20.68 = (AF – 165)/270 and therefore AF = 260.35

Ideally, this should be the correct length between the top of the Dish and the tip of the LNB focal arm (of 165Cm) in order to achieve an offset angle of 20.68 Degrees.

Therefore, we went ahead to use these measurements for the fabrication of the LNB arm and its support arms.

THEN CAME THE DILEMMA !!

Once this was done; after installing the dish, we started by tracking 5E and got a very strong quality of 85% for the DW TV Transponder. Next we tried 7East. Then we realized that the LNB was not in the right focal position since it was collecting little signal from 7 East.

To overcome this, we decided to bring down the LNB arm and the two side supports and make them adjustable so that we could play around with the arms during the tracking process! Also, thw wind factor was real trouble since the 100Kg or so dish structure plus its metal was shaking at slight provocation. Note that the 3-inch pipe stand structure (anchored by twelve M-10 Roll-bolts on the concrete base) was very firm.

SHOUTS OF JOY !!

Days later, after re-fabrication of the arms and making extra back supports to act as wind break, finally, we managed to track the 7East Europe beam using Focal length of 157Cm instead of 165Cm; and LNB side support arms of 196Cm instead of 197Cm. This effectively altered the Offset Angle.

However, all apart from three TPs are streaming in stable at quality of 78%. The 3 weak ones are scratching at 40% as indicated by Mr. Dongra (11534 V 30000; 11575 V 30000; 11617 V 30000). This means that further minor adjustments can be done to arrive at the original factory Focal position. Next we added other LNBs for 7W, 5E and Amos5.

Attached below find extra photos with measurements we used. Pardon for lots of mathematics above.

Hi,

Comrades in Mombasa/Coast i'm interested in knowing your Dish setup. I'm interested in movies/sports/documentary

I currently im getting the following Satellites;
-7W on 6ft
-7E(though no digiturks) on 120cm
-20E and Amos 17E Arabsat on 6ft
-52.5E Yahsat on 6ft

😡
prime focus ,mesh. I have no problem with digiturk my 130 cm is doing just fine as u can see from photos i posted earlier the quality is hitting 81% and above. My mission as i said earlier is hotbird that is the only challenge left

It would be a very fine thing if our brother Karizz would provide a more comprehensive info on the said BUDs he has been building. By doing so he would encourage others with similar dreams to go ahead and build their own and if not so for lazy people like me buy the same from him. If some ASAS victims here have gone to the pain of importing this from outside Kenya then this shows how ripe the market is.... so take advantage of this and gain an extra coin. Having a hobby is a good thing but having a hobby and making money out of it is a great thing so if you are serious bro do the necessary.

We all know that the time that we used to wait for photos for a month (read Ramogi studios) is over, you can now take a photo and instantly upload it. or was it "figment of your imagination" i hope not coz this will mean a very big disappointment to all the curious forum members.😡😡😡

Incidentally, the photo karizz upload shows an offset dish, so I'm also still waiting to see his meshed pf dish, at least to remove all doubts. Over to you my friend.

Good evening

A forum was able to improve signal strength in Nairobi on his 130 cm offset dish by using a certain lnb called FUJI HD lnb model SSI-T1100. according to this member this lnb did magic. please note I never tried this lnb because am further north and i was able nab all Eutelsat 7A Europe beam B with 90cm and a simple lnb.
so invest in powerful lnb and am very sure you will enjoy all "how they do it, how to or how it's made and so on"

Hi jey,
Am keen on bringing down the 7A beam B with a 90cm offset and need a few tips. I would appreciate if you PM'ed me your location (How far North are you for instance?). Thanks.

I am on 7A (7e) and I am getting the D*g*turk channels. I have a 180cm pf dish plus a fuji quad ku-band lnb. I am further north though in Nbi

yes you are right those are for my 130 cm i had uploaded earlier. As i told a forum member, i am in the farm and i will upload those photos as soon as i get to the other house. u see am a typical Kikuyu so my first career is Farming and Engineering is my second.what we are doing requires a lot of cash and the cash has to come from somewhere like now i am planning to buy a chopping gun , the one i am finding in the net goes for around 40k so am thinking let me find the cash first.by the way i didnt say i have ku dishes , i said i have C band dishes those you see everywhere it is now am planning to build ku dishes i dont understand the excitement.

4G signals will be used by mobile networks to transmit
higher quality phone and video calls but, more
importantly, the newly designated frequencies will
become a highway for the enormous amounts of mobile
data which are now being consumed on a daily basis.
The space on the airwaves for 4G mobile broadband has
come from the great analogue TV switch off, which ran
on the 800 MHz band.
DTT runs on a frequency band which is right next to and
slightly overlaps with the 800 MHz band earmarked for
4G.
Problems are likely to arise for people living in the
vicinity of a future 4G mobile mast.
Those in the immediate area, around 30,000 according to
Ofcom estimates, will be in the 'Overload Zone' and are
likely to have to resort to satellite TV services
